Applications close too early

Im trying to reassign the tzones button to task manager. It's impossible when all the applications close after 30 seconds and go back to the homescreen. How do ya make the applications stay open longer? Tried finding setting in settings, no luck. Simple things like QR mark, file manager, WMP, and the rest close w/o exiting really fast. Any clues?
