Guest HSS Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Hi, I have been offered an upgrade by orange to a Spv M600 (for free) and to a Spv M3100 (for
Guest simonclark123 Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 I second that. IMO M600 was seriously underpowered (so much so that I went back to using my M500). Also M3100 has 3g and is enabled for HDSPA. My two arrive on Tuesday and will be immediately unlocked via imei-check.co.uk for use on T-Mobile Web'n'Walk Pro until Orange come up with a sensible data plan for business. Guest jimbouk Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 The M600 is a superb piece of kit. Small enough to fit in jeans pocket BUT the M3100 is amazing. As the guys above have said, the M3100 is lightning fast (both in terms of response and data). Its slightly wider but still just about small enough to pop in jeans pocket (as long as you dont wear 1980's skintight stretch denim!). As you are making the leap from a smartphone to a pocket pc, you may as well go the whole hog and get one with the qwerty keyboard and the 400mhz processer, 3g, etc etc When you get it, allow yourself a week or two to get used to the major difference between smartphones and ppcs (namely the different input methods).
Guest Funster Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 M3100 all the way. Had an M600, it was fantastic, but like others said it was underpowered. The M3100 is fast and the keyboard is superb. Go on, do it. :D Funster
Guest Confucious Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 (edited) M600 if you're going to use it on Orange! The M3100 has 3G and HSDPA (not that Orange support it yet) and if you stick with Orange you will find your data charges will be prohibitive. If, on the other hand, you do like a previous poster and get it unlocked and use it on T with W'n'W then go for the M3100 :D PS As neither of them are SmartPhones wouldn't it have been better to post this in the PPC section? Just a thought.... Edited August 20, 2006 by Confucious

Guest Confucious Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Unless you get THE unlimited plan from Orange and want to enjoy good 3G coverage... :D If you happen to be one of the lucky ones whos name gets picked out of the hat (that is how they decide, isn't it?). I'm one of the lucky ones, like most others I know, who find T's 3G coverage better than Os - of course it does depend where you live but I certainly have no problems with T in s/e England
Guest jimbouk Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 I live in SW London and travel quite a bit so before I got the 3100 I did some research on O and T 3G coverage. I did a trawl of various forums and found quite a few T customers who are finding that the T's 3G coverage is there but so poor that they have to turn 3G off in order to use their Hermes devices - ie they get a 3G signal to the device and it thus selects it, but its so weak that the phone won't even answer calls. Having said that, I tried a Nokia 3G phone from Orange about a year ago (and hated it!) and had no 3G coverage at all from them. So I decided to bite the bullet and got a 3100 to see if their 3G coverage had got any better (knowing that I could return it if I wasn't happy) and have been very impressed over the last two weeks. I have only seen the device drop to 2G on two occasions and was mid-call on one of them and didn't even notice the switch. I was able to get the unlimited package, so that helped! I don't understand the various posts from members saying that O won't let them increase their tarriff from certain ones to new ones (even though it means a higher monthly charge?). I know some of you guys are O knockers whereas I am a fan right now, but I don't follow the logic of stopping a customer increasing their monthly tariff at upgrade time (unless its down to a credit problem?).
Guest Confucious Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 I've been with T since April when they introduced unlimited W'n'W but have had no problems between the southcoast where I have fanily and Woking where I work. I've found the 3G coverage at least as good as O who I used when they gave me the try 3G for 3 months. Never had a problem transfering from 3g to 2g - but then I have an O2Exec - maybe that's the diff. I have nothing against O per se but if they have this unlimited bundle for
Guest danwatson1974 Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 (edited) I think it's all been covered .... but anyway : does the lack of a keyboard on the M600 inhibit the phone much? No, but the one on the M3100 is fantastic -what about the lack of the scroll wheel? Again, not a big worry -is the M3100 noticeably bigger than the M600? No.. a couple of mm maybe -is it worth paying an extra Edited August 20, 2006 by danwatson1974
Guest HSS Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Thanks for all your help. It seems the M3100 is considered a far superior phone, so I have just placed my order and am expecting it next week.
