Guest daddyo Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 (edited) Is there anyway of improving the way the scroll function works? I find scrolling up/down a web page difficult using the wheel, up/down arrow on the keyboard or the up/down direction pad as when you use any of these, the screen jumps form link to link as if you were using the tab key on a pc keyboard. This is ok if you want to navigate to a link but often I just want to do some smooth scrolling up and down a page (jut like you can when you use the up/down arrow on a PC keyboard). Guest jimbouk Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 There is a reg hack that changes the behaviour to smooth page scrolling instad of link jumping. I think its over at xda developers.

Guest jimbouk Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Had a quick look and it seems to only relate to Dpad scrolling so I dont know if it will affect wheel scrolling and/or cursor scrolling as well. If not I guess there will be registry keys related to those? Navigate PIE up/down with the four-way pad By default, PIE uses the four-way pad's up/down buttons to jump between hyperlinks and form fields. You can set it up to page up/down instead by setting: \HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Navigation\4-Way Nav = 0 (DWORD decimal) And to re-enable hyperlink/form field navigation: \HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Navigation\4-Way Nav = 1 (DWORD decimal) Note that you may still jump between links using Tab and Shift-Tab if your Device has a built-in hardware keyboard.

Guest NikLP Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Does it work with wheel and/or cursor scrolling then?
Guest daddyo Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 Does it work with wheel and/or cursor scrolling then? it works with the wheel and the dpad/arrow keys and turns them into a page up/down navigators I find it makes navigation when browsing much easier especially with the keyboard closed.
Guest NikLP Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 cool, that works fine, but i've used PHM reg editor and it doesn't persist after a soft reset, what's the deal?
Guest FragMeister Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 i use PIEPlus on my magician, which greatly improves PIE. Not sure if you've used this. www.reensoft.com
Guest NikLP Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Also, this tweak causes other issues. When editing textarea fields (such as the one I'm typing in right now) the arrow keys no longer move up and down, which is pretty irritating. I might just buy Opera, seeing as it wazzes all over pIE anyway (which is a POS).
Guest jimbouk Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 (edited) Not 100% sure its that tweak that is affecting your device. In PIE, when in a text field, the up down arrows don't allow you to move up and down anyway - as the focus is in the text field, unless you hit enter or click outside the field to change the focus. I have PIE and Opera. They both behave slightly differently in loads of ways and consequently take some getting used to. For example, with PIE if you scroll to a text field you can start typing straight away (ie it realises that it is a text input field), but with Opera, you have to click on the field before you can start entering text. Similarly when you have finished typing, in PIE you have to click outside the field to move the focus to the page, but with Opera you can just click down with the wheel/arrows and scroll outside the field. I guess its just a case of getting used to it - but I use both browsers (as some sites are easier to navigate with PIE and others are easier with Opera) and this different behaviour means that you have to remember which browser you are using to avoid wasted clicks. *edit to correct typos - I think my train must have been running over a cow on the line or something!* Edited September 4, 2006 by jimbouk
Guest NikLP Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Hm I know pIE is a bit of a sod anyway, I was just curious, the behaviour seemed to have changed. Also I was pretty certain that in outlook I could previously "Add Recipient..." and then hit down to get into the typing area, but a press of the arrow now scrolls the page down to the bottom, which is no good really. No other key seems to perform this action either. Not sure if it's just me there?
Guest jimbouk Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 That sounds like a result of the tweak. In messaging, I can start typing an email address or name, then click down to select a name from the list (if the address is in contacts), then enter to select the address....then one click down indeed enters the message field.
Guest fhwong Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 Is there a way to just have the scroll wheel doing this webpage scroll and not the D pad? Otherwise I will have the problem of not being able to select other recipients in my email program. Thanks
