How best to backup 2125 (or any Smartphone) b4 upg

I've read messages eluding or stating explicitly that one cannot backup the Smartphone's contents well. I'd like to upgrade to the latest software from HTC for my Cingular 2125 but am leary as I will loose all settings/ software/ messages, etc.

Any workarounds or 'smart' backup software?

Sprite Backup normally works well, however there have been problems in the past coping with ROM upgrades. The latest version may be better though.

Contacts can be backed up to Outlook via Activesync. Software reinstalled from your original installers.

To back up SMS try out Jeyo Mobile Companion or Outlook Extender(?) Both very good apps!
