Guest tnad Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 I have a cingular 2125 with WM5. There's 20mb space on the device, so I bought a 2G miniSD. Eventhough I made sure I installed all the programs I put on the phone to the storage card, the free space on the device (not the storage card) somehow kept dropping till there were no more space and it wouldn't let me install anything anymore. I don't use the internet on the phone and couldn't find any temp files on the device that I can delete. The only suspicious large files I noticed were in the windows folder but I'm not sure if I can delete these. Please help if you have any idea what's going on with the space on the device eventhough Iinstalled everything on the storage card that has 95% free space left.

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 Are you using IE a lot? as this is a known problem with space on the WM5. This post shows you how to place your IE files on the storage card instead. http://www.modaco.com/IMPORTANT-Pocket-IE-...ch-t231188.html
Guest tnad Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 (edited) I already have the IE files.... directed to the storage card. I don't use the internet anyways. There's only 2.5 MB in my documents (on the device) by the way so that's not the problem. I noticed that about 10 MB are in the windows folder. Specifically, mostly large files dumped in \Windows\ (not in the folders inside \Windows) . I installed a lot of software to the storage card. Is it possible that it dumps some random files in the windows folder? If so how do I know what to delete there? If there's some type of software that scans the device folders and cleans this crap, please let me know. Edited August 23, 2006 by tnad
Guest danwatson1974 Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 Don't know the answer to your problem .. I tried everything I could think of, and in the end, hard reset my M500 after backing everything up. Problem solved. But not in a very clever way, I'll admit :D

Guest tnad Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 By the way these are the files that are taking a lot of space in the windows folder: cgacutil.exe GAC_CustomMarshalers_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_Microsoft.VisualBasic_v8_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_Microsoft.WindowsCE.Forms_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_Microsoft.WindowsMobile.DirectX_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_mscorlib_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_System.Data_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_System.Drawing_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_System.Messaging_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_System.Net.IrDA_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_System.Web.Services_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_System.Windows.Forms.DataGrid_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_System.Windows.Forms_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_System.Xml_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll GAC_System_v2_0_0_0_cneutral_1.dll Microsoft .NET CF 2.0.GAC MSCOREE2_0.dll mscoree.dll netcfagl2_0.dll netcfd3dm2_0.dll Anyone knows what to do with them?
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 Keep them. What about email and SMS messages are you deleting them or keeping them? This over time can fill the phone.

Guest monkeygadge Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 I've had this problem today too. I installed the compact netframework onto my storage card (2GB in an XDA IQ) an it still takes up 5MB in the IPSM folder. If I remove it then it frees up the 5MB. When I look at the storage card I can find the folder Storage Card\.NET CF 2.0 but Smart Explorer reports it's size as being 0 bytes. I've tried it three times and get the same result each time.
Guest tnad Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 yeah I install everything to the storage card but these files still go to the windows folder. I found a tutorial to fix this problem here: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php...p;tb=1&pb=1 I'm not sure if it works, but I will try it.
Guest Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 This problem (CFramework relocating itself to the phones memory) was addresses with the latest version (SP1) Remove the older version and install this one: link is here hth gr
Guest monkeygadge Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 That's the version that I'm using. I'll try and download it again to make sure.
Guest monkeygadge Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 Sorted! It's the patch for version 2.0 that you need. You can get it here. I already had the previous version installed and ran the patch from my computer. It gives you the option to re-install on the Storage Card during the update. It still looks like it takes up just over 1MB of the IPSM folder though......
Guest tnad Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 Thank you, I guess this solved the problem 46% free space instead of 9% on my device now. If anyone has any tips for getting more free space (like removing some unecessary files that came pre-installed), please let me know :D
Guest tnad Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 It still looks like it takes up just over 1MB of the IPSM folder though...... yeah the following files are still in \Windows\ : cgacutil.exe MSCOREE2_0.dll netcfagl2_0.dll netcfd3dm2_0.dll I will try moving them to \Storage Card\Windows\ then use the registery editor and go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Loader" and add the following value to "SystemPath" on a new line "\Storage Card\Windows\" That will save over 1MB, but not sure if it works. I'm still trying to figure out which appliction I have requires ".NET Compact Framework 2.0" to run :D
