Guest darrellr Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 When I went through the order process for my Vario II I was told that there was an adult content block placed on the 'phone that would stop access to porn/casino/sick etc sites. The guy asked if I wanted it removed and I said 'no' as it sounded useful to stop my kids messing around. Anyone know how this block is implimented and if it can be toggled on/off without having to go through Customer services?

If it's anything like the content filtering implemented by Vodafone (we use their 3G cards for company laptops), it's controlled by customer services; we found we had to get it removed as it was blocking access to some legitimate sites and was stopping people doing their job! Presumably they just register the SIM card/phone number with their content filtering server (in much the same way as corporates do with things like Websense or SurfControl etc). HTH, Mark.

Modaco and XDA-dev's are just 2 sites deemed 'adult' by Orange PAYG despite my asking for a review. They cannot remove the content lock at 3am via cust services but apparantly can review a website and confirm it's adult within 2 mins at the same time in the morning. Richard
Guest NikLP Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 If you login to your Mobile Account via the Orange website there's an option for this in there. When you've logged in, under 'your phone', you'll see your mobile number highlighted. Click this and you'll be presented with a series of options, the last of which is Orange Safeguard, which in theory controls the adult content setting for your account (well that phone number at least).
Guest Confucious Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 Orange probably don't have a lot of say over what's adult content on a Vario II...... AFAIK you have to phone T and they will go throuugh the security checks and confirm you are 18 before unblocking it. Not sure if you can change the setting on T's website. I had mine unblocked as I think I'm old enough to make my own mind up and I don't find MoDaCo toooo offencive :D

Guest Confucious Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 **** off! :D Will now get Adult content block put back on because the word "off!" offended me deeply :D :D
Guest jimbouk Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 I have Orange safeguard lifted on my account - but sometimes when I use 3g to access Modaco it blocks it stating that they "are unable to identify me at present"... So if they can't identify me - how can they bill me for the data?
Guest Confucious Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 Don't you just love technology? :D
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 I've just mailed my Orange contacts, to see if I can make anything happen on this. I'm pretty comfortable that MoDaCo isn't adult content :D P

Guest jimbouk Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 I think you will find that its more a worry that any forum's content is not "managed" by the owner of the domain in advance - but is open to joe schmo posting what he likes. Although there are moderators etc, inflamatory posts can "live" on a forum for a while and some forums are not as well run as this one (*moves closer to the top of the "random" pile for the Modaco C600). And thus not anything to do with the fact that some people slate O on here.
Guest steveA Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 Whilst attempting to download a decent "today screen background" of the lovely Keeley Hazell, a T Mobile Adult content pop up appeared. I cant remember how it looked exactly but it asked for credit card details for the purpose of verifying my age. The idea is they debit the account by
