Guest simoncpage Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 Having recently just bought a smartphone (i-mate SP5m) I have been trying to set it up as I want it (after having been used to the Sony Ericsson for the last few years K68, K700, W800, W300) 1. Is there a way to be able to open a text message as it arrives - with the sony ericsson you would get a screen saying message from Joe Bloggs and time and a bit of the message with a nice open button to view it straight away? 2. When sending text message one of Sonys killer function was the ability to keep a list of the most recent recipients. So you can quickly pick from a list of them rather than having to do a search. Any help on this would be great Thanks
Guest conan_troutman Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 er the contacts button changes to read mmessages this opens it up for reading the most recent sent are stored in your infolder where you just reply what more could you possibly want??
Guest simoncpage Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 (edited) Arh I didn't notice that contacts changes that solves one. PROBLEM: I'm not planning on keeping my text message indefinitely and I will clear them out and I don't want to hunt through a list of messages to find one to reply to for the person I want. I want to write a new message and then on send find the contact from a list of most recently sent people. PROBLEM: I have another request - when you enter text with t9 with the sony ericsson if you backup on a word it underlines it and goes back to the predictive list selection on the i-mate SP5m you just go back to overwriting the word and you have to delete it completely and start again Edited August 24, 2006 by simoncpage

Anybody want to program something like this.
Guest conan_troutman Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 (edited) open a text message hold the * key pick option 6 then option two now type in all the words you feel T9 will not instinctively know usually names this way there is less chance of them not been unknown when typing reducing the troublesome feature you mention as for most recent contacts why wouldnt you just add the recipient at the start when composing message it says "to" here press action key and it opens contacts you spell the name T9 style so if you typed 756 it brings up all numbers starting 756 aswell as all contacts who names begin with the letters used on those keys so it may bring Up RIK, or RILey,edwards or PILkington k glass company its really not that troublesome Edited August 25, 2006 by conan_troutman

Also - its just that I am used to it (with the popular send name) and like to send text like that if you think about it it is a much more cleaner and neater way of sending particularly when you send a lot and to a select few and when you want to send one quickly - you would realise this if you had been using a sony ericsson too - the the time it takes to send a text message with a smartphone is so much longer - "smart" not really being the right word. If anyone has or could create this for a smartphone it would be a killer app as far as I am concerned - Sony are forging ahead on intuitive and useful UIs
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 Personally i turn on t9 in the to: field and type the actual name into the field. When you send the phone will automatically find the number and provide mulitple options if it matches more than one contact. I find this is the quickest way to input the recipient...
