Guest gavingovinden Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 Helooo! Ok I'm a dumbass. I accept and acknowledge this fact and pale in comparison to you tech-geniuses. I just got my M3100 in the post today - Woohoo! I however am not the most technically gifted person out there. Basically when I had my M500 I got my geek-mate to set it all up and tweak it etc for me. This time, he's not about so I was wondering if I could turn to you good people. Basically, I know to get rid of the Orange home screen. I find it crap. What I need to know is how to "set up" stuff such as 1.Wifi - to conect it to my home wifi modem 2.how to set up direct push email for work and hotmail. 3.What tweaks are good and what ones are not so good 4.the best free stuff to download (although I think a good man has already listed that stuff for us on this forum) Secondly there were many things that bugged me about the M500 that I was wondering if they got sorted with this new phone. i.e. 1.can you easily set up bluetooth activesync now? 2. When you send files via file explorer can you do by bluetooth now? 3.can you set MP3's as tones? 4.Can you set text message tones? Any help would be much appreciated guys and girls. Now where did I put that brain...
Guest NikLP Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 You're in the right place chap, but I'd be surprised if you found someone who was prepared to sit and talk you through all this. If I was you, I'd get reading the large number of relevant articles that you'll most likely find around here or using google. :D Not what you wanted to hear, but it's better than letting your thread sink without trace. Plus your thread title isn't exactly helpful! :D

Now where did I put that brain... Some people may not want to offer help!!!! I will try and where I can. 1. If you click on Start, Programs, ActiveSync it will open up ActiveSync on your phone. Then click Menu at the bottom right. This then gives you the option to connect via Bluetooth (dont know if it works as I aint tried it). 2. In File Explorer press and hold on the item you want to send, you will get a list pop up. Pick "Beam File" and provided Bluetooth is switched on for both devices it will allow you to send. 3. Again in File Explorer just press and hold the mp3 you want to use as the ringtone and select "Set as Ringtone". Yip it is that easy. 4. This is a bit more complicated and I think to use a file it has to be saved as a wav. You have to save the file into to the Windows folder for it to work. You can then select it from the list under the phone settings. Hope this has helped. Kal El Edited August 25, 2006 by Kal El

Guest jimbouk Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 With regard to BT activesync, open activesync on the pc and go to help and search for Bluetooth. The first item will be a three point process for getting it to work - which includes getting the necessary BT com ports working on pc first. Follow that - DO NOT TRY IT THE OTHER WAY ROUND* (as you will end up mucking up the settings and it will take you hours to fix). *Sorry for shouting.

Basically, I know to get rid of the Orange home screen. I find it crap. What I need to know is how to "set up" stuff such as 1.Wifi - to conect it to my home wifi modem Turn Wifi on on your device, it'll search for nearby hotspots and prompt you when it finds yours. Enter your key and away you go. 2.how to set up direct push email for work and hotmail.Hotmail will sync up when you sign into Pocket MSN automagically and add a mailbox to pocket outlook. For work have a chat to your mail administrator and check they're running Exchange 2003 with SP2, and that you can access it from the outside world. If thats all cool add the server details in Activesync, if Always Up To Date is enabled it'll activate automagically. 3.What tweaks are good and what ones are not so good Depends on what you want to tweak :D Find a bunch that look interesting when you first get the phone, have a play and then if setting them back doesnt work you can hard reset with out worrying about losing info. 4.the best free stuff to download (although I think a good man has already listed that stuff for us on this forum)Assuming you're talking about Paul's fairly comprehensive list, you've already answered that question :D Secondly there were many things that bugged me about the M500 that I was wondering if they got sorted with this new phone. i.e. 1.can you easily set up bluetooth activesync now? Yep, as jimbouk says, search for the device on your PC, connect when prompted on the handset, and when you get to the services screen you should have an "activesync" option. 2. When you send files via file explorer can you do by bluetooth now? 3.can you set MP3's as tones?Answered above 4.Can you set text message tones? Dunno what these are? Any help would be much appreciated guys and girls. Now where did I put that brain...
