Well the 3100 arrived this afternoon and I promptly phoned O to activate the SIM. In my experience I have never had to wait for a SIM to be activated and it as always just happened - however, been over 3 hours so far and the phone is just sitting there searching for a signal. Am I just being inpatient or should something have happened by now?

Would appreciate any pointers as I am keen to see how quick the 3G data is......

Thanks

Ed

(PS If I dont fix the f****** certificate issues active syncing to exchange soon I will be posting again!!!)

I ran at about 7PM and had to wait to 3am the next morning. So hang on in there!

Turn the device off for an hour and then switch it on and it will probably activate then. They say leave it off for two hours and then switch it on and it can then take up to 24 hrs.

If you switch it on and leave it on straightaway, then it fails to register on the network (as it is barred) and when the activation message is sent, the network doesnt know its there.

By switching it off for a while, when you do switch it on, the network sees it trying to register and the system fires off the sms update.

Thanks Jimbouk - would you recommend properly off or would flight mode be okay?! (Just trying to get it configured properly you see and could do with finishing it on "work time" :D )

Cheers ed

SIM updates are just texts, so they can take upto 24 hours to come through.

I would advise leaving the "phone" off (as you suggested StGeorge) and turn it back on for 5 mins every hour or two. Leaving the "phone" on can block the updates from coming through!

flight mode is fine - it is off as far as the phone/network is concerned.
