Guest marisa4755 Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 Tried to install trial software yesterday, all appeared well, but then I got a message that I need a newer version of Microsoft. Net Compact Framework. I was a bit stunned, after all, the machine has only been out a short while! Anyway, contacted the develper, (credit where it's due, he got back to me in 10 minutes!) who said that I would need to upgrade to v2 and gave me the link. Well, when I got to the stage of where do you want it installed, it claimed to need 5mb! I reckon anything like this would need to go on main memory, but am reluctant to stick a 5mb thing on there, especially for a trial programme. So, how can I tell which I already have? Also, has anyone else had to do this? What would you recommend? thanks

Guest stattman Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 you can tell by going to windows folder and running cgautil. a version which starts as 2 signifies cf 2.0. apparently microsoft recommend storing direct to device.

Thanks for that, it comes up as 1.0.4292.00, so, it looks as though v2 would be an upgrade, but, as I say, I am reluctant to use 5+ of my 64 for this purpose. I think I will look around and see if some other software will do the same job. Still, I had no idea about cgautil, so I have learnt something useful from this.

The latest version works fine from the storage card and this ability is within the release notes. You will have no issue running it from the storage card.
Guest Tech Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 thats right, the only problem would be performance since it has to access the storage card (external from internal memory) but shouldnt be too bad
