Guest Tech Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 Hi. I need to find wireless webcams which I can access from my computer (I do have a wireless router) but having the ability to capture video (I have software for this) just like a wired USB webcam. I need to also find a wireless cam with the ability for zooming in (perhaps 1-2x). The story is, unfortunately we had a racist attack - and there is no way of getting evidence, witnesses etc... - dont ask, long complicated story. I have done this stuff before when 9/11 struck (we were under heavy stone/brick attacks for no reason) with a camcorder but that was borrowed from my uncle, and thanks to the MS technology we have today, I Was able to record it, hand it in and let it get processed. Thing is, I need a wireless cam, not a wired one which I have, as I dont want to have to boot up the laptop, take it to wherever I need to take it and plug in the camera, and the webcam I have was cheap crap anyway! Even though the police/law sucks (you cant record evidence without the people knowing you are recording them...which is impossible since the area we live in is bad and is of a racist area), I pretty much don't care as I have very strong valid cases to put against, shall it be taken to court. Anyway enough of that - been sidetracked! I would like to know this from valuable members here: 1) Do wireless cam's exist? (I know they do but which are the best ones?!) 2) Do some of the wireless webcams have at least the ability to zoom in a bit? 3) Would it be possible to directly capture the video image, as you can with a wired cam? 4) Where can I get it from the UK? I've tried Mapliin, even though they are overpriced, they didn't have any I've also no doubt tried my own computer supplier/distributor and local stores but non of them seem to have one. Much appreciated for your valuable replies and expertise! :D
Guest w411y Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 Not exactly the best news you were after but Ateks CoolCamera app for PPC allows you to use your WM5 PPC camera (ie your Vario) as a wireless webcam.
Guest Tech Posted August 27, 2006 Report Posted August 27, 2006 well yes but the cam quality is not great - need more of a 24/7 system and not exactly going to use my device just for that LOL :D

Guest Palindrome Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 (edited) I've got a Linksys WVC54G. Here's some details. Includes remote access, motion sensor etc. Edited August 28, 2006 by Palindrome
Guest Tech Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 looks good but its linksys and ive had a bad time with their routers, but network cards are good. thing is - I see no functionality spec of a zoom feature - does it have zoom? what is the res of the camera? (640*480?) What about the ability to capture the video using the standard capture drivers? For example, I have software which captures video from a video source, be it a wired cam, would I still be able to "link" up to the cam?
Guest fozzie Posted August 28, 2006 Report Posted August 28, 2006 that does look good, thanks fozzie. but look at the price...woohaaaa - just over 384 quid on expansys! :DAgree, it is a lot of money but considering what you wanted to use it for..........
