Both my dad and myself still have 5 months left on our respective O2 Tariffs, however today we took a trip to Nottingham and whilst there paid a visit to the T-Mobile store. There were no Vario 2's out on display so we asked one of the assistants if they had any in.

Sure enough he told us they had 2 in stock, we had a play with one and my dad asked a few questions before saying to my suprise "I'll take one".

Now I've been telling him for a while that I've wanted this machine and he's gone and gone one just to tease me... f***er. :D

There were a few interesting things that the assistant said whilst we were questioning him.

One was about Web N Walk. He claimed that Web N walk Unlimited allowed MoIP (but not VoIP) where as the Web N Walk Pro Unlimited doesn't allow either MoIP and VoIP.

Anyway my dad is taking great delight in flashing his new toy at me however it did give me chance to play with the unit for a while so here are my views :

  • The shape of the device makes the unit feel a lot thinner than the Mini S even though in reality it's only a few mm smaller.
  • I couldn't feel any difference in weight between the two units. My dad seems to think the Vario2 is lighter, however one thing is that the actual balance of the device when in your hand feels a lot nicer.
  • Speed increase IS noticeable in things like games etc. In terms of the screen switching orientation tho the standard T-Mobile isn't much faster that my Wizard. However I am running a custom ROM on the Wizard and am pretty sure that the T-Mobile ROM beats the standard O2 Mini S ROM hands down.
  • There's been a lot of rearranging of the keyboard, symbols and numbers have all changed positions, will take a bit of getting used to for someone like myself who uses the MiniS Keyboard heavily.
  • The colour scheme on the T-Mobile Vario 2 looks a whole lot worse in the pre-released pictures, 'in the flesh' it looks a whole lot nicer. Kind of refined if not quite as 'sexy' as the Orange variant. :D
  • After a few teething problems with PIE not finding any sites and giving unknown errors it settled down, a speedtest whilst connected through Web N Walk showed a connection speed of 1.1Mbps!!!! (Wowzers!)

Now the dust is settled I'm still as determined as ever to get one of these beauties when my contract ends, unless something pretty damn stunning comes out in the mean time the Vario2 with Web N Walk Unlimited is my next phone choice.

Enjoy these piccies. :D

I would just 'borrow it for 'evaluation purposes'. A short period such as 12 months should suffice :D
