[teaser]

It came out of nowhere, and it now seems as though the HTC Excalibur (that's the one that looks like the Motorola Q running QVGA Smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard) could be with us very soon indeed!

Respected German mobile magazine 'Connect' is reporting that the device will be launching soon on O2 Germany as the 'XDA Cosmo' (we expect the device to hit the ground around October), and French website Mobinaute is reporting here that the device is confirmed for Orange Netherlands (source unknown?).

While this doesn't mean either device will come to market in the UK, it seems likely as HTC try to steal a march on the Motorola Q - which we can expect to see in UMTS form late 2006 / early 2007. No word yet either on whether HTC will be shipping their own SIM free variant of the Excalibur, maybe called the 'XclbR' or something :D

[Edit: the::unwired now have their hands on a real boxed device, additional pictures below!][/teaser]

Shouldn't it be called the "UgLee" or something? :D

Does it have GPS? It seems one HTC with GPS is set to soon hit the market.

No it doesn't... the HTC Trinity is coming soon and has GPS.

It looks like a turkey really. I can't see why anyone would want to take that device over ANY that has a flip-down keyboard, aside from potentially the "moving parts" issue.

Well, it looks good to me (or let's say at least slim), in comparison of a Blackberry or treo. Looks to me that the target is the BB' users.

Paul's subsequently publicised that the Trinity WILL NOT have GPS but the forthcoming HTC Love (previously known as the Artemis) will...

This thing actually looks a lot nicer in the flesh (well, pics). I'd be tempted, would still prefer an i320N though :D

Do you guys have any news on when the Excalibur / Cosmo might be released by O2, and the pricing?

I've decided to purchase this device, however it seems that the only retailer that has them in stock (Expansys) is asking a crazy amount (£350) !!

Thanks for your help,

Loukas
