...The excuse for the absence :D

No excuse could explain away my sin... :D

Sorry about the absence, I suppose I disappeared for a number of reasons, first and primarily the fact that the SPV was so PC-oriented that it failed to function as a phone.

About the time when my phone started dying every second call that came in, it became impractical to use, and I reverted to the step into the stone age that was my previous phone.

After my SPV troubles, I was put off smartphones for a while, reasoning that the technology hadn't really reached the level needed for them to operate properly, but, after looking around recently for a new phone, I saw that they've come quite a way, and thought I might have another go. Thus - to MoDaCo!

Then there was the fact that spending every waking hour on MoDaCo was somewhat damaging to my schooling... but we all need priorities.

Welcome back! The platform really has improved no end since those days as you've noticed. Interestingly though there's been a move by many away from the Smartphone platform to a new range of more compact and more feature packed Pocket PC Phones.

There are loads of Pocket PC Phones from HTC coming all the time and barely a trickle of Smartphones. Added to the fact that both platforms are heading towards eventual convergence it's not surprising many of us are moving to new hybridised Pocket PCs (more compact and often with integrated keyboard).

Or you can just do what I do and carry one of each! :D

I'm considering some of the larger phones, since the keyboard can be a great help (typing emails on the SPV... *shudder*), but there's something nice about how compact the phones get. I'll probably settle somewhere between the two, either with a keyboard or at least a sufficiently large keypad.

Looks like a little more research is in order. I'm still getting my head around the range available, here in my little backwater country you'd be lucky to find more than one in a store... I'm so deprived :D
