Guest Mantafreak Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 right o chaps... I've had a C600 for this past year but due for an upgrade... The C600 was such a pain in the backside I'm tempted to never go with an SPV again... 3 phones in 6 months due to software faults.... through no fault of my own cause all I ever used it for was mp3's movies and the odd game demo as I conld never be arsed to buy any... contemplating moving on to the M600.... has anyone had similar reliability issues with it or has it been 100% rock solid as a std phone/pda thing.... seriously thinking of going back to nokia.... :D :D
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 What sort of issues have you had with the C600? If you've been through that many then its possible the bugs are "features", and tbh you're going to get that on any smartphone, WM or Symbian
Guest Mantafreak Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 the problem I had with the first one... All of a sudden movies music and anything would run really badly... with nothing else running... the joystick wouldn't go up at all... the second one... the joystick appeared not to go up at all like the first one.... then would go mad as if i'd been holding it... then the other directions went.... to read a single text would take about an hour as all you could do when you selected messaging from the menu for some reason would default to mms so you would need to move it to sms... you had to press the joystick and wait till it moved before you could do anything... also sometime if you knocked the joystick while you were doing anything it would cycle through as if the joystock was stuck and again you'd have to wait an age or turn it off to get anything done... it's a sham really cause I never had a problem with my c500... went back to it for a few months as the 2nd replacement was a refurb model and was just planning to sell it on ebay.... have gone back to it but I really have no faith in it.... I did like the look of the m600 as it does every thing i want it to and also has wifi... if i had the cash i'd just buy the imate/qtek equvalent as they usually have more features anyway and have none of the software balls that orange put on... but as I have to use either a new contract or upgrade to get a phone i'll have to take the orange crap with it... saying that they may just take me from behind and whack a huge upgrade fee on it anyway.... we'll see what they say in a couple of weeks.... was just hoping to hear that no one's had a problem... i will admit I hate windows but am too new to linux to use it full time yet and i know the functionality is good.... just wanted the feedback on the reliability after the shambles that is the c600....
Guest slimgym Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I wouldn't go back to Symbian, it just doesn't work as logically as WM. Nokia also seem to release the same hardware with different firmware and model numbers and missing/present features. The N70 isn't even in the latest 20 phones released now! I had a 6260 which had an awful MP3 player with a poor mono frequency response - totally unusable - yet had a stereo FM radio with fine frequency response. The 6260 was also sluggish - just as bad as I found a friends N70. It needed requent battery-off resets and you couldn't use GPRS over bluetooth from a laptop. I then bought a second hand SPV C500 for
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Yep agreed, Symbian is no better than WM. As for your joystick problems, its a pain, i had them too. The latest ROM update does seem to work particularly well at fixing it though, strangely enough. The M600, a nice good looking handset and you will probably be happier with it. Bear in mind the version sold by the networks is *exactly* the same as the ones you can buy off Expansys branded by imate or QTek, they're the same hardware, and ROM updates can be bodged onto other handsets if you really dont like the Orange stuff. Incidentally although the name is the same Windows Mobile has nothing to do with the desktop counterpart :D
Guest slimgym Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 > The N70 isn't even in the latest 20 phones released now! As if to prove the point, Nokia have announced an updated N80 released in September. Having said all that a friend has just got an N73 which seems to have good speed response and a very good camera on it, along with a smaller form factor. It seems fully featured enough with FM radio, MP3/WMA player with in-built stereo speakers (that's going to be deep joy on the tube!).

Its my first Symbian phone (except a 1 week trial of a Sendo X a few years back) and it is different from WM but its no less usable really. The interface is certainly a lot quicker than the SP5 I used to have, probably about the same as my old C500. The camera is what sold me and I've got to say it really is outstandingly good! I've had it four weeks and it has reset once - but that was because I screwed up and deleted something important while copying all my files to a bigger mini SD. Once Papyrus and Emoze come out with their Symbian S60 3rd edition versions I can see my Exec becoming more of a fulltime movie and web viewing device.
