Guest nedge2k Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 [teaser] Remember when we told you how Virgin Mobile are gearing up to release the HTC Monet as the Lobster 700? Well, a friend of ours at Virgin Mobile informs us this device will be available exclusively through the Carphone Warehouse in September and that same friend was also kind enough to share both the quick start guide and the user manual exclusively with us here at MoDaCo! :D [/teaser] Interestingly, the manual is quite detailed, even explaining how to setup both wired GPRS modem and Bluetooth GPRS modem! It is also evident from the manual that the Lobster 700 will include the new wireless modem app which allows you to enter the APN on the device and not have to mess around with connection strings on the PC. Also evident is that the 700 will feature HTC's new camera app (see images below) and will include the full ClearVue suite. There was, however, no mention of the TV function of this phone! :D Quick start excerpts: User manual excerpts:
Guest Dr Who Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 I am really quite interested in this phone, depending on how much Virgin want out of me to get it and whether I can unlock it to TMob and still use the TV service.
Guest nedge2k Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Oh I'm sure there'll be an unlock solution :D Although whether you'll still be able to get TV remains to be seen...
Guest The Doctor Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Oh I'm sure there'll be an unlock solution :D Although whether you'll still be able to get TV remains to be seen... Looks like a STANDARD 3.5mm jack :D YAY! you can plug normal headphones in :D any word on whether it will support a2dp? Phil
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 My money is on a 2.5mm jack... P
Guest The Doctor Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 My money is on a 2.5mm jack... P Thought that at first but it just seems that bit too big on the photo to be a 2.5mm... Time will tell :D Phil
Guest nedge2k Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Yeh it'll be bigger because it's used as a band III antenna too :D
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 So this is DVB-H, yes? If so, then presumably you can receive video regardless of network, but more importantly, whats the coverage like?
Guest nedge2k Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 nope, this is DAB-IP - like DAB radio just with video codec and at present it's only transmitted by BT, who have a deal with Virgin iirc :D
Guest spider Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 who on earth came up with the idea of naming a phone "Lobster" :D

Guest Dr Who Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 http://business.guardian.co.uk/story/0,,1861538,00.html fyi Sounds like you will need to be on the Virgin network in that article. If it is by OTA DVB though I can't see how they could prevent it being 'hacked'?
Guest thonge Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Sounds like you will need to be on the Virgin network in that article. If it is by OTA DVB though I can't see how they could prevent it being 'hacked'? It's not OTA DVB - it's coming from DAB-IP and requires a DRM licence to be downloaded first.
