Guest nvkid909 Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 Hi, it seems some people on Orange are unable to connect to Opera Mini's Java based browser recently. This has been happening to me for over a week now, in that time I have hard-reset my phone & reinstalled it all. Still no joy. Anyone have any idea why this is happening, are Orange blocking this service? Cheers :D
Guest MPXtricky Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 'Unable to connect to' does not make sense. Or did you mean 'unable to run'? Opera is an application like any other, and probably the best browser to use with small screens. I've been told that Pocket PC Phones are not application locked, so the problem(s) may be due to something else. My M3100 should arrive tomorrow and I will certainly be installing Opera Mini and trying it out so I'll post back and let you know. Probably just a bad configuration (imo) Hi, it seems some people on Orange are unable to connect to Opera Mini's Java based browser recently. Guest nvkid909 Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 (edited) :D afraid not. looking at the opera mini forums it appears that many people are 'unable to connect' (yes, that is what i said :D ) from about a week ago & they are all on orange. this may or may not be a fault on the network & apparently some orange customers are being charged for roaming when they don't have this set up, & this may be related. so if anyone is on PAYG or contract with orange, & have been [trying] to connect to gprs using a java based application, you might want to check your bills for any incorrect roaming charges linky so if they've stopped msn messenger on newer SPV's, are they now thinking about making their own browser? also, slightly off topic here but, what's wrong with orange deciding to block MODACO (viewing on smartphone) with it's adult content filter? i submitted a query on this via the orange world page that took it's place... then they text me back saying they have reviewed the site & have decided it is not suitable for under 18's, so i still cannot view it. .. COME ON ORANGE, SORT YOURSELVES OUT, I HAVE NOT ASKED FOR THIS, AND I AM 31! so, i have carefully selected these emoticons that best describe orange uk: major :D from me see also: :D :D Edited August 31, 2006 by nvkid909

Guest nvkid909 Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 (edited) Further to this, it seems that Orange Safeguard may be the problem... indeed, [for me] it blocks certain sites (modaco included :D ) instead, throwing up an error page from Orange world. Aparrently Opera Mini also falls victim to this because it connects to a proxy. so if anyone's still having this problem the suggestion is call Orange CS & get Orange Safeguard disabled - if you are over 18 ofcourse. Guest Coucou Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 The best way to disable orange safeguard is via the internet, assuming you've set up your online account management. I had a 'mare trying to do it either via Orange World or Orange CS.
