Guest svtmook Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 i bought a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter from ebay. it had the 4 bands (3 rings) on the male side. i'm using it with a cassette tape adapter to play in my car stereo, however, the sound is mono. the male plug on the cassette adapter is 3 band (2 rings). what is everyone else using to connect their devices to their car stereos?
Guest genaldar Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I had a similar problem with my car stereo, only instead of mono it only came out of my rear speakers. I'm pretty sure it was a shortcoming of my stereo.
Guest rdwars Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 (edited) I'm using a 2.5 to 3.5mm adapter as well. Sound is stereo but somehow, if I unplug the adapter like a milimeter from my phone, the music / sound is slightly more clear. Perhaps a short circuit or something, but anyway since I stream the music from the internet into my car it's ok since music over 4 - 5 kb/s is not crystal clear at all :D Now, I'm doing it differently. Here in the Netherlands on T-Mobile you can access the internet over GPRS with flatfee. About $11,- a month for unlimited time and bandwith. I now pair my bluetooth PDA with my phone, so I can access the internet on my PDA with GPRS speed. I keep my phone in the pocket of my jeans, plug a cable into my PDA and hear streaming music from all over the world in my car. I've made a little HTML file with extra big letters so I can change channel by just hitting the screen with my finger while driving. Nothing dangerous really. And always great to hear your favourite music station even at places where the station doesn't have coverage :D Edited September 3, 2006 by rdwars
Guest grumpy_old_technobyte Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 I'm using a 2.5mm adapter to connect to an FM Transmitter for the car. I've gone through quite a few in the past but I would recommend the type that use the cigarette lighter as a power source. The AAA batteried style will suck juice too quick. Once that silly law in UK is ridden, this might be a hot item again. (avoid the Sony DCCFMT3, the antennae is too weak)
Guest looeee Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 my solution was to buy a sony CDX-GT300S radio for my car which has a line-in (and i use a maplin 2.5mm->3.5mm adaptor). The quality is awsome I've just noticed that sony have released a new cd-player, the MEX-BT5000 which supports the A2DP in the typhoon so you can stream your music over bluetooth, and handle all the phone operations too. looeee
Guest Nubbing Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 I have spent quite a bit now trying to get the right 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor that works. I have been through 2 that both require me to slightly pull the adaptor out and push it at certain angles to get the right sound. :D Anyway I have bought this from ebay: Ebay tastic It just...works. You plug it in phone, plug you male ended 3.5mm device in the other end and it works. Everything plugs in easily and securly, no missing speaker coverage and will play all sound options you get in tcmp player (mono, mono left, mono right, stereo, stereo swapped - the best option). It plugs into my car casset mp3 plug thing and works, works on my tv speaker adptor, works on my laptop speakers and finally, works be-utifully on my 3.5mm sony headphones. It just works. And its cheap at 99p+
Guest killerost Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 This tips will improve the quality for you guys using a 4 part 2.5mm to 4 part 3.5mm adapter! Even tough the adapter itself is a four part adapter, inserting the three part 3.5mm jack will shortcircuit two of the parts. And a shortcircuit instead of a microphone will cause interference and bad sound. What you CAN do to solve this is to use tipp-ex (the white stuff you use to correct written errors) or some form of paint and cover where the missing ring would have been. This will insulate and prevent any form of shortcircuting. How permanent this will be depends on how much you plug and unplug the jack. :D
