Guest Albie Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 I have an Orange SPV C600, and have downloaded opera mini, and have to say it is superb. What I was wondering is, is there any point in using the Opera Mobile, or just stick with Opera Mini. Just wondered what the benefits would be in actually paying for the full version, rather than just using the free one.
Guest Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 opera mini is actually quite good but it is a cut down version of full opera. however i had it on my phone K750i for ages and i never found a site that did not work with it.(other than java ones!) BUT the main reason why if it works u should use it is opera mini 2.0 uses a proxy server to get the data to you and recompress it and package it first. this results in a hell of a lot less data transferred which as you are on orange this is important. and results in faster loading speeds. (not so much for me anymore on t-mobile web and walk) eg www.bbc.co.uk on normal web browser is about 1 mb while on opera mini is about 20 K and all the pictures are there just scaled down. you can enable higher picture quality on opera mini if you like but i found the scaled down ones fine when i was on O2 with K750i JEREMY
Guest nvkid909 Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 does not currently work on orange uk mind you, when they did allow it, it [mini] worked superbly. could change the font size, page up/down, change skins, bug reports... puts pocket ie in the shade. i wonder if it's being blocked has anything to do with orange wanting to put on their own browser, if so, would that involve a rom update for models such as spv c550? if they ARE blocking opera mini, are they also going to block pocket ie (can't see them going THAT far)? just on newer models? like, msn messenger is no more in the recent devices.. :D correct me if i'm wrong, but i think it's only the c550 that needs the mini version due to it's 240 x 320 screen. shame... both orange & opera seem to have forgotten about the c550 so i doubt there will be a revised rom for it with a new orange browser (and messenger?), hopefully this will be resolved & we can use opera mini again soon. nb: opera mini is also not working on 'ordinary' phones with java (on orange) apparently though other java apps that connect to gprs are not having this problem.
Guest cng Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Whats good about Opera Mobile then? What is the difference? Why would they release another one that does less/same?

Opera Mobile is a fully featured, stand alone browser for you PDA phone. Opera Mini requires your device to have Java installed and relies on the Opera server to fetch and deliver your pages.
