Guest rickwookie Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 When you switch on bluetooth the 'Make this device discoverable to other devices' is always unchecked. Is there any way to have this setting persistent (ie always remembers the last setting if you switch BT of and on again)? Also, how do I change the BT name? On my iPAQ 2100 there are lots more tabs under BT setings (such as different settings for each of the BT profiles) and one of them has the BT device name. The Vario II uses my full name from the owner information. Yuk! Surely I don't need to crack open the registry editor everytime I want to change trivial BT settings such as device name? (can it even be changed in the registry). Also the iPAQ 2100 had a great BT manager with wizards for most BT tasks. No such ease of use built in to WM5. :D Seems a bit of a step in the wrong direction.
Guest jimbouk Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Erm, No, No and errrr No. Discoverable is turned off by default due to the massive battery drain it causes. You probably could hack the device to turn it on, but I reckon you want to change it back pretty quickly...especially if in a pub full of bt phones. The name is set by the owner name and is the same as the device name. I haven't seen a hack to change it.

In Settings>System>About>Device ID you can set the Device name that it says it uses to identify it to other computers, not sure if thats just Active Sync or Bluetooth as well
Guest rickwookie Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 In Settings>System>About>Device ID you can set the Device name that it says it uses to identify it to other computers, not sure if thats just Active Sync or Bluetooth as well Yeah, that would make sense more than using the owner name wouldn't it! Unfortunately Microsoft didn't think of that. :D They obviously think that nobody minds revealing their full name everytime they want to make their device discoverable in a public place to allow someone to quickly beam them a file. Well I do mind. So next time you're bluejacked by 'Sussie Smith' you'll know what I may have put for 'Name' in my 'Owner Information'. :D
Guest scoobytwo Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 i used a reg editor for my bluetooth nickname on my m500. unfortunatly it looks like you need to do the same on the m1300. why i dont know.

I was bored and bluejacking on the tube the other day and heard somebody say, "I have just got a file from , WTF". I stopped bluejacking.
