Guest Shaks Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 There's an article on the Inquirer about Mobile Phone Viruses/Hackers at: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=7391 It claims hacker attacks could affect 19-30% of the mobile phone population! I don't think there's that many phones out there that could be hacked It also says orange is out of stock of SPV's because they are "rapidly installing the software fix which will prevent hack attacks to the SPV's security" What a load of b******s Shaks
Guest MBoden Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 last time i looked 730 had downloaded Doom, out of 50000 sold SPVs that amount to 1½ % 19-30% paaah
Guest Bazz Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 It's based on research saying what could happen, not what's actually happening now. I'm reading it as saying: phones are getting smarter, software can now be installed on them, therefore hacks are a possibility. Which there are! It's not saying hacking is happening yet, except for in Japan ("of course" - why of course I haven't read about this?) Finally the last bit is just regurgitating a rumour they heard from resellers. We've all heard that rumour too.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 What a load of bull, they said the only attacks to date are from PC based applications. What relevence is that to the SPV? I think before they get arsey over this they need to look at current tech, the afore mentioned PCMCIA cards and PDA GSM adapters. It is also possible across all networks to send SMS's that you can charge for, the hole was "built in" when the networks were first set up, and never patched. In theory somone with a PC/mobile setup could easily spam SMS's to thtousends of mobile users, charging for each one sent. Narrow minded people irritate me :/
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 I've heard of a new "Virus" that is spreading rapidly across the network. Basically if you are using any cellphone on the streets of London, UK, then the "virus" may detect your phone from a distance and perform an "attack" in the form of a blunt object to the back of the head. This "virus" will normally leave you with no ability to use your handset. Additionally it may disable your wallet thereby preventing you from using ANY OTHER HANDSET. Be warned. Microsoft has not as yet stated whether re-enabling certification will prevent this "Virus" from affecting you.
Guest crimminsky Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 heh heh...up all night and still a great sense of humour ;)
Guest AsherUK Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Think I'll stay away from London and that nasty "virus" ;)
Guest Shaks Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Lol, lucky don't live near london!!
