Homescreen XML help

I'm in the prosses of creating my own homescreen and it's almost there. However I am running into a couple issues with the vociemail plugin (clsid DCE58428-275E-491f-B835-F2AC38D0CC17) and text message plugin (clsid 8486CC1E-025B-4888-9C76-048DF7C1787D).

Is there a way to keep the VM plugin from disapearing...by that I mean will it ever display "voice mail: 0"? The reason is because if it disapears, then all the content below it shifts up and doesn't line up with the background. Here's the code I have:

And Second the Is there a way to get the Text message plugin to change font attributes when it is selected? I want it to match the other plugins (like the voice mail and missed call) where, when they are selected the become bold. Here is the code I have, I just want to make it turn bold when selected:
