Guest Swampie Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I'm using an MDA Vario and I've got a SDIO card which is of SD form factor, however I've now got a SD to miniSD adaptor (http://www.ably.com.tw/pdt/viewpdt.asp?absp=1&cat=OTHERS) - which allows a SD card to fit into a miniSD slot!!! Okay, it's clunky, large, likely to get broken, but I do software development at work, and this is ideal for some of the hardware we use. I received the adaptor this morning and tested it with a SD memory card - works fine. I then tried it with an RFID/NFC SDIO card which I intended to use it with, but the test application provided with it doesn't detect the card. The adaptor is quoted as supporting SDIO as well. I've got the card and software working on other devices (O2 Xda IIi and HP iPAQ h5500 both running WM2003) but these have SD slots. The Vario has miniSD and is WM5. The software claims it works with WM5. So, I see either it could be one of 3 things: 1.) Vario doesn't support SDIO through the miniSD slot 2.) Adaptor doesn't support SDIO 3.) Software doesn't work with WM5 I'm leaning towards 1.) as: a.) The adaptor is just a simple PCB with SD slot and miniSD pads, no components, just a simple wiring of the socket to the pads (similar to a miniSD to SD adaptor). b.) The test application and SDK is said to support WM5, and I believe this card was demoed by Steve Ballmer using a HTC Universal at the 3GSM World Congress in 2006 (although MS' transcript of this says it was demoed on a "Vodafone 9100" which I believe is a Wizard - the 9000 is the Universal. The pictures shown elsewhere say a Universal and show a Universal, so I guess it the 9100 was a typo, actually meaning 9000. So - has anyone got any SDIO (miniSD) cards working on the Wizard/Vario? Or has anyone else tried one of these adaptors with a SD based SDIO card? Thanks David So I'm guessing it's a Vario issue. Strangely,
Guest Swampie Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Oh, and I just tried the SD card in the miniSD adaptor, which itself was then inserted into an SD adaptor, and then inserted into an SD slot in the XDA IIi - and it worked. So I'm certain that the adaptor is suitable for SDIO use. Therefore I'm left with the Vario/Wizard being the cause of the problem. I'm sure someone must have tried to use a SDIO device on a Vario/Wizard before?
