c600 menu selection turned to letters, now not quick-selectable

hey

i have the orange c600 and at some point in the last few days (i dont know when exactly), any menu i goto is now indexed by a letter (a..z) instead of a number (1..9). I have no idea how this happened, but now it means i cant quick select a menu item by a number (i.e. to select normal profile in the quick list, i would normally just press the quick list button then the number 5. However, now normal profile (for example) in quick list is represented by an 'E', and if i press 5, nothing happens.)

This is the same throughout all the menus that i goto. Any idea how i can change this back?
