hi! after reading this post:

http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=...=fonts&st=0

i started tinkering.

first, i looked in the storage\windows\fonts folder and saw a file named ZLCD.ttf. i copied a font over and renamed the zlcd.ttf to zlcd1.ttf and renamed my new font to zlcd.ttf, and then i made the registry changes as described in the above post, using a different font for the registry changes than i had for the zlcd.ttf.

guess what happened?

the exterior lcd font changed to the zlcd font and everything else became the font i had set it to in the registry.

then i started thinking that there are many fonts out there that are outlined, meaning that there is white space in the font itself, which, when used for the exterior lcd, would most likely display as black, thus allowing people to use normal backgrounds for the lcd!!!!

but when i tried to implement my idea, things started going a little nuts. when i rebooted, a nifty 'mobile operator' image came up, and there were at least three different fonts being used at once on the system.

and so i leave it to you, my good and patient friends, to perhaps delve to the bottom of the matter, as i neither have the time, the patience, nor the guts.

adios!

update on the above - i finally did get a chance to mess around again and i successfully installed a font that has white space in it on the outside screen by replacing the zlcd.ttf with a different font, but unfortunately the white space is transparent instead of black.

however, this is good if you want to replace the font system-wide but have a different font on the external lcd.

adios!
