Guest nforsans Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 (edited) here's the problem: BBC News 24 is currently being broadcast live on the web. The address of the .ram file is http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsa/n5ctrl/live/bb/...deo/now2_bb.ram. There is a direct link to the live stream from the BBC News website (desktop edition). Now, I want to use my wifi connection to get it streamed onto my Hermes. I have tried to make it work in 3 different ways, but... no way it won't work..! 1- accessing BBC News desktop edition on my Vario II and clicking on the link as I do on the laptop. I get an error message saying that javascript is probably turned off - I take it that PocketPCS have limitations. Fine 2- I open the link above directly onto real Player onto my Vario II. Same result - can't open the file. 3- I use the Streaming application on the Vario II and enter the above link. Can't make it work: it asks me for a rstp://, but the link above is a http:// one. If I replace http:// above by rstp:// and copy the rest of the link, it does not work either. Any idea as to how make it work? Do I need a rstp proxy? and if so, what should I do? Give it a try: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsa/n5ctrl/live/bb/...deo/now2_bb.ram on the desktop, then try to do the same thing on your Hermes. Hurry though, as News 24 only broadcast live on the web when news is breaking - the link will be turned down later in the day. Cheers Edited September 7, 2006 by nforsans

What I don't seem to be able to do is to stream live feed from the web. Has anybody got any idea as to how to do it?

Guest mwright Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 What changes did you implement, and where? In the streaming app, in real player? In realplayer. Options->Preferences->Network - I changed Type to 802.11B and bandwidth to 11Mbps
Guest swampcat Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I've been using Real Player for years on my WM2003Se and WM5 devices (including the Vario and now the Vario II) to play .ram files and it works great. What I don't seem to be able to do is to stream live feed from the web. Has anybody got any idea as to how to do it? It worked first time for me without changing any of the default settings. What i did was browse the bbc.co.uk site, http://www.bbc.co.uk , found the link to audio news - and after clicking on it, a screen asks what you want to do with the file, choose open and your realplayer will launch and stream. Alternately you can try clicking on the realaudio icon on the bottom toolbar and it will launch explorer and go to the realaudio site where you can listen to some content the same way as above
Guest adge Posted December 19, 2006 Report Posted December 19, 2006 Does anyone know if it's possible to get the bbc's "radio player" to run under PIE ? A lot of their achived material doesn't give you the "play in real player" option. I'm guessing it's a problem with running javascript, although I thought the version of PIE with WM5 supported this now ? Adge
