Guest nedge2k Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 It's somewhat of a confusing time for Windows Mobile lovers at the moment. So many new devices coming, information about them spread all over the place. You might be having a tough decision deciding which one is best for you! With that in mind, I decided to knock up a little table of current and upcomming hot devices to watch out for and their specs :D Click on the image below to check it out! The specs in red are one's that are unavailable/filled in by me :D That should be 99% accurate but if you spot any mistakes or know something I don't, PM me!
Guest cng Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Sorry to break people's heart but the Samsung i600 and i610 are both not quad-band according to other sources.
Guest cng Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 A nice special feature to mention for the Benq P51 is the built-in GPS. As far as I know, your spec sheet is accurate and really nicely compare each device. Good job! Even I need something like this to keep track sometimes.
Guest Ingvarr Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Unfortunately, ASUS P525 has no EDGE (though its quad-band). Also it have camera with auto-focus.
Guest nedge2k Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Yup, P51 has GPS (it's late and I made mistakes :D) I got my info on the P525 from here: http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=463 but yep, it seems it doesn't have EDGE. A few devices had autofocusing cameras but given the quality of most PPC cameras, I didn't see much point in mentioning it. I mean, would you choose a device over another because of auto focus?
Guest Ingvarr Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 I dont care much about camera at all, but I beleive autofocus is quite important feature - it makes big difference when these 2+ mpixels utilized more fully. Without focusing camera, at some distances picture will be not perfectly in focus and (slightly) blurry. So I think that camera with adjustable optics is a must-be for all future devices.
Guest nedge2k Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 hmm...i may add AF and macro when I have time :D
Guest cng Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 The page you linked for P525 says it does have EDGE. Is the page wrong or whats the confusion here?
Guest Ingvarr Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 (edited) The page must be wrong. Couple of Russian sites already had a comprehensive hands-on tests of P525 - it has no EDGE. Edited September 8, 2006 by Ingvarr
Guest mattyduk Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 great chart, but according to HTC datasheets, the LOVE, does have WIFI, whereas it was at first thought that it didn't :D It's now on my buy list

Sorry, should have been more clear, that's where I got the wrong info from :D After a bit more digging it looks as though it doesn't have edge :D

Guest roma0803 Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Nice, thanks. AFAIK the HTC Love (Artemis or P3300) does not have UMTS but does have WiFi as stated by mattyduk above.

Guest Dr Who Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Yep, looks like another change from what was thought before the official HTC announcements. WTF is the point of that???? It has GPS in it, so one would assume you are going to use it out and about, for traffic updates, etc, etc. If I am doing that I am unlikely to be near a hotspot and would prefer UMTS. So, I am supposed to use GPRS for that? That seems like a weird idea to me.
Guest nedge2k Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 It's a good point BUT many will prefer Wi-Fi over UMTS. How well that crappy CPU will cope with something like WPA-TKIP is another story though. Here's hoping it supports AES.
Guest Ingvarr Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Wizard had same 200Mhz OMAP and it had no probs with WPA/TKIP. Actually encryption is hardware-assisted with TI WiFi chip it uses.
Guest nedge2k Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 See now I always thought the WiFi on the Wizard was pretty crap...especially when used with the Terminal Services client (which ran at a snails pace anyway).
Guest The Doctor Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 The Breeze ISN'T quad band, its only tri band unfortunately found out by our members in the US of A Phil
Guest nedge2k Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 The Breeze ISN'T quad band, its only tri band unfortunately found out by our members in the US of A Phil I thought the deal with the Breeze was that it was Quadband for everything bar UTMS and that's what had everyone pissed off?
Guest The Doctor Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 (edited) I thought the deal with the Breeze was that it was Quadband for everything bar UTMS and that's what had everyone pissed off? Nope. It's UMTS 2100MHz and GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800/1900 All the other websites bar the i-Mate website have it wrong...... Phil Edited September 8, 2006 by The Doctor
Guest iharkins Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Does the fact that the Samsung Blackjack was shown by Orange mean that the SGH-i600 is coming to Orange in November?
Guest Pondrew Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Does the fact that the Samsung Blackjack was shown by Orange mean that the SGH-i600 is coming to Orange in November? Not necessarily, they showed the SPV F600 (HTC Star Trek) and that's apparently not going to be released at all here in the UK :D
Guest tonywalk Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 (edited) Edited 11/09/2006 14:46 to add and update a few details. Dimensions and weight would be a good addition to the table. I've also spotted some notable omissions: Samsung SGH-i320/i320n, i-Mate JAQ, Fujitsu-Siemens Loox T810/T830 and UbiQUiO 501. I've been compiling my own spreadsheet of features. The slightly strange looking stuff below is the CSV taken from it. Again, like your table, it is by no means complete or accurate. Just select the text from "Manufacturer" down and copy and paste it into Notepad. There you can save it as a .CSV file (say smartphones.csv) and load it into your fave spreadsheet app. "Manufacturer","Model","Screen size","Screen res.","No Colours","Dimensions","Weight","Processor","Op sys","Bluetooth Version","Wi-Fi Version","Camera/ Mega px","USB Host?","Headphone jack size","GPS?","Talk time","Standby time" ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, "Samsung","SGH-i320","2.2 Edited September 11, 2006 by tonywalk
