02 XDA Mini-S - is it AKU2?

I've got a client that have a load of 02 XDA Mini S phones, and they have just had a shiny new Exchange Server installed, and I'd like to give them push-email (as they are currentlly using POP and clogging up my mailserver!).

From what I gather the latest patched version of Server/Exhange supports this out-of-the-box (as long as the user is enabled for mobile access), as long as the phone is AKU2.

From the posts I've read I'm not clear if the standard 02 Wizard ROM is AKU2 or not, how do I check on the device? If it's not AKU2 have 02 released an updated ROM?

If these phones/PDAs can't do push, can they pull from the server? I'm assuming that you set up ActiveSync to syncronise against the server, after that can you pull email to the phone?

I've done the obvious searches and couldn't find anything quickly that was definitive.

Any (swift) help appreciated!

(If they'd asked me first I'd have told them to wait for the Hermes........)

quick way to tell I guess is to launch the Comm Manager on one of them - if Microsoft DirectPush is in there you should be away.

As stated above, the AKU2 rom has a "directpush" button on the Com Mgr screen. If it does have that, and as long as the exchange server has service pack 2 installed, it should work.

The easiest way to set up individual phones, is to plug them in to a pc that is connected to the web and has activesync 4.2 installed. Once the device is recognised, it will ask if you want to sync and if so, whether you want to sync to an exchange server. You will need to enter the public address for the server (or depending on their setup, the proxy address) and then enter their username and password and domain.

Once it has synced for the first time, the user can then just turn on directpush and as long as they have a data connection (GPRS) the device will maintain a connection with the server and "push" mail to it.

Your client will need to consider the data charges as users will typically use 5-10mb a month, plus actual content. They should set their phones to only download recent mail, and its best not to include attachments (as these can be manually selected by the users if they need them).

If for any reason push doesnt work for them, they can pull mail from the server either by setting activeysnc to check for mail at regular intervals or they can poll the server as a pop/imap server.

Thanks for your replies, I've got them trialling one user pulling email to see if they prefer it to POP.
