M3100 Screen Alignment problem

Hi,

I've had my m3100 for about 6 days now. For the last couple of days I've been having problems with the screen alignment, and having to align it 2-3 times a day.

Thinking it might have been a combination of software that I installed, I did a hard reset, followed the startup wizard to do a screen align, and all was fine for a couple of hours. Then for no reason, the screen goes out of alignment on the right-hand side. Sometimes, if you leave it for a while, it sorts itself out... but it's still very frustrating.

Got fed up of this, called Orange and they're sending me a replacement for tomorrow morning. No fuss, as it ought to be! Just hope the replacement doesn't go the same way.

I'd be interested if anyone else is having this problem?

The problem has been reported by a few people.

Looks like it may be a possible design flaw but without a unit myself I can not confirm this.

Wonder if the case is causing pressure on the screen as this would cause problems.

Just do a Google search for "Hermes screen alignment". You're not alone.

HTC admitted a hardware fault.

The newer devices don't seem to have the problem (my replacement is fine) so, hopefully, you'll be ok.

How interesting. After about a month of flawless service, mine has developed this very same fault this week. I develop some of my own apps using compact dotnet, but can't imagine how they can affect the registry key found at HKLM\Hardware\DeviceMap\Touch and CalibrationData.

I'm looking at what is happening here. Perhaps I'll write a little app to rewrite my usual settings, or get in touch with Orange.

It's a hardware fault - HTC are replacing the gasket around the LCD. It seems to happen when the device gets warm.

Orange should get it replaced/fixed under warranty.

Thanks for the heads up, appreciated and have contacted my seller.

... have contacted my seller.

What's the usual practice in this sort of event? Is my seller (buymobilephones (uk)) obliged to send me a replacement and then I return the faulty one? Or do I return the faulty one and wait till they get their act together for repair or replacement. So far they have suggested I contact HTC. I said this was unacceptable as my contract/purchase was with them?

I'd be grateful for any suggestions on this - and who is responsible for postage?

Just like to advise people that www.buymobilephone.net only response to numerous emails and recorded delivery letter is to tell me to contact HTC. HTC of course say its none of their business as its an Orange phone.

I am now having to take legal action against www.buymobilephone.net - their customer service is abysmal - be warned

Am facing same problem with my I-Mate K-Jam. The right hand side alignment goes out of sync...

K-Jam : : Touch Screen, Align Screen

Any body has a solution ?

Get it replaced as it is a hardware fault. I am on my 3rd M3100 now.

Developed same problem today, called orange 20 minutes ago, new phone coming tomorrow afternoon.

Ok I got my new phone and 20 minutes later, same problem.

Gutted.

So I muddled through for 2 days with the screen alignment problem. It would be ok on the left of the screen but as you went over to the right the alignment would be out. Easily checked by tapping the audio/battery/wireless etc icons along the top and illustrated perfectly by going into word and holding stylus to screen and seeing where the little circle decided you were pressing.

So another call to orange was planned. But whilst looking for ways to deal with the problem i came across this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...p;postcount=150

And I am pleased to report it bloody works!

I dont see the sense in doing it all round the device as the problem just seems to be the right hand side. I used the blister pack from a pack of rennies to do it as it had the strength and thinness to do a good job.

Effectively you are removing the foam seating between the case and the screen and at first its quite sticky and stubborn. But keep going back and forth and teasing the detrious out of the gap and it will clear the problem. Must warn you tho that it may seem to make the problem worse at first and if you dont get all the seal out. My stomach turned when I did it cause I thought i'd destroyed it as it went out of line by about a centimetre at one point.

But I kept sliding the plastic along the groove and then recalibrated and its better than ever. Its so nice to be able to click the [x] without volume option making an appearence.

will keep you posted on wether it stays thusley thus.

Just done this to my year old (and therefore out of warranty) K-JAM. Ran a business card round the seal, and got lots of crap coming out - Dust, short (non-curly) hairs etc. I've got a theory that the buildup of dust under the seal is causing pressure on the edges of the touch screen, which is what gives the false touch/tap location.

I re-calibrated my screen, and even the dead patch on my screen's gone now. I'm rather pleased. :) I imagine that this will be a regular occurence as the debris builds up again, but at least it's not terminal (yet). :D
