What causes the boot splash to hang, and how can I stop it

I'm in a horrible cycle of my SDA hanging at the windows mobile boot splash. It's happened on both the qtek and imate 2.6.33 ROMS, and now finally happened on the T-Mo stock ROM.

Granted, on the newer ROMS, it was happening seemingly randomly. I would simply reboot after a day of being up (or a couple hours if I just tweaked something or it was running slow) and it would get stuck. Nothing I can do at taht point but hard reset or reflash.

Keep in mind, this doesn't happen with every reboot. I'd get the ROM istalled, get everything just how I like it, and BAM, out of nowhere, it pulls this.

With the T-mo one, it just now happened for the first time. I installed the LAME sunnysoft backup program (DONT RECOMMEND), and just wanted to try out a backup. Hit "Backup" and it told me the device was going to restart, but it jsut stayed at that screen FOREVER. Finally pulled the battery (nothing else would wake it up), adn now I can't boot.

HOLY #$%&, it just got past the stuck splash screen. Took about 10 minutes. Now my homescreen background has loaded, BUT THERE"S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ON IT!!!!

Start menu does nothing, contacts work.

Just got an error saying "can not find language.dat"

WAY TO GO SUNNYSOFT!!!!! (Yes, I'm blaming them. Don't flame me please)

Ugh, I can't get it to do anything now but sit at the contacts screen, use the camera and Comm Manager, or go into task manager (mapped to the t-mo button)

Okay, now I can see the start menu. File manager shows the darn "Storage Card2" thing happened again. That explains some stuff, though not why this keeps happening with the new ROMS.

Sorry to go on and on. I'm very tired and frustrated. REALLY wanted to be able to use the new ROMs, they run SO much better than the T-Mobile one...

Okay, going to work on fixing storage card2. No problems there...

Will somebody, some GURU, please chime in and help figure out how to "stabilize" my boot process or something so I can run the new ROM without the boot screen hang?

>>>Am I seriously the ONLY person who keep running into this?:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Quick update...

The T-mobile ROM still has yet to actually do the boot splash freeze (thank god). That boot problem was created by that horribly documented/implemented sunnysoft backup prog. It stuck something in the windows\startup folder that kept trying to run, even after I uninstalled the program. Gave me quite a bit of trouble.

Still wouldn't reccommend that backup program for anyone. I should have known right away when you couldn't even see everything on the screen (as in, there was stuff on the screen below the viewable area, and it wouldn't scroll down to it or anything). My own fault for trying it. I jsut cant afford the $30 for sprite backup...

So, the t-mo ROM is still running. At least that's something.

But back to my original question, which nobody seems to have an answer to - How can I stop the NEW ROMs from hanging during boot? Anybody else with an SDA running the new 2.6.33xxxx ROM from imate or qtek?

Is there some way to view/edit/monitor the boot process to track down what is hanging? Any logs I can check? I suppose the log would jsut get deleted at the hard reset, so that's probably not an option...

Is it just booting too fast for my device, or something else that's jsut making it unstable?

I hate begging, but someplease PLEASE help me get to the bottom of this!!

Keeps happening.

Nobody has any insight here?

I read somewhere that the Storage Card2 bug is related to having the messages plugin on the homescreen, and to avoid it you need to NOT have that plugin loaded. That's unacceptable to me, so I still have it loaded. Could that really be all this is? Each time it happens on the T-mo ROM, it eventually comes back to life, and the Storage Card has been renamed. But it doens't seem as though the renaming is what is causing the CRAZY long boot hang, as I used to get the renaming bug frequently before, but it never affected the bootup. It just wouldn't load any programs that were installed on the card.

I don't know what else to try. Here's the list of 3rd party stuff I've got loaded, FYI

Here's what I've got:

Facade 1.10

Papyrus 1.13

John Cody alerts!

Chronos

Fizz Weather

AutoKeylock

RJTime

RJShortcut

PocketNester

SmartMonitor

Orneta Notepad

RegEditSTG

CoolCamera

Smartanoid :D

ClearVue Suite

PowerControl+OMAP (tried a ROM without using this, didn't help)

TCPMP

and I've got a bunch of the SurrealNetworks quickie regedit's in there as well.

Just hoping somebody has an idea on how to fix this...I love my phone but HATE the grief it puts me through!! :D
