Hermes 'How to use the Camera' Guide

...don't get excited - this is a request not a feature

The camera on the Hermes is not a patch on that of the SE K750i in normal OR macro mode IMO (see my K750i Macro Pics HERE)

OK, so we have burst mode that takes up to 30 shots, whereas the SE only takes 4 but man is the Hermes S-L-O-W between shots... and the pics I've taken so far are pretty crap. I'm not getting much joy at all

If only I could put my SE K750i camera into the Hermes..... :D

I wonder if the more learned Hermes camera users (read as: "less of a twat than MPXtricky") could post details of how they set their camera up to take those cool images we see in the PICS thread?

A sticky for that would be well cool

I took a bunch of photos today, and my opinion is that it's just a crap camera.. I'm not sure there's much you're going to be able to do to retrieve the situation... Maybe you need more of a tutorial on photo post in photoshop?

the general consensus is change the sharpness down to 1 from the default 7. Its got to have enough light if not enough then noise starts to appear and image quality suffers.

then use whole picture (average) metering. HOLD VERY VERY STILL when taking the shot and bit after till its saved and on screen. This seems to be the most important thing for image quality.

and thats about it.

Otherwise photoshop tutorials here you come. the camera isnt that bad if you play with it not a patch on my old k750i but others have managed half decent shots so it is possible.

Oh, and after a bunch of completely crap shots yesterday, might be worth mentioning that it doesn't retain your settings between resets... I thought I'd had the sharpness down, and the metering to average, that'll explain all my silhouette, overexposed and generally crap dynamic ranged shots..

Oh well, better luck next time, I'm sure we'll have another sunny day down the beach with the kids before the summer's out... umm, or not.

To cut to the point the cameras used in all of HTC devices are not in the slightest comparable to the cameras modules used in most of the mainstream handsets - k750i/Nokia N Series etc.

But then you shouldn't buy HTC devices for that reason.

I previously owned a k750i and I am sadly missing the ability to take relatively decent pics in the dark as well as pics in many other situations.

But then I didn't buy the Hermes to take pics!

Convergence is not quite there IMO. If you want decent photos, buy a digi-cam and stop whinging!

I posted exactly the same sentiments in the hermes photo thread.

yup we didnt buy these phones for their camera abilities. did we now !!! :D

On the other hand if i bought a K800i i would say that i bought the phone for its camera abilities more than for the phone itself!!

Given that Sony (before they swallowed up Ericsson) have been producing digital cameras since about 1997-ish, it's not entirely surprising that the quality of the cameras in the SE mobiles are so much better than the "el-cheapo" versions seen in the HTC devices.

IMO, a mobile phone camera is good for a quick snapshot, nothing more.....if you wanna "do a David Bailey", get a DSLR!!!!!

Just my $0.02 :D

Mark.
