Guest chrissyboy6969 Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I am really close the selling my Tytn, I am finding using it as my main phone just too damned awkward, before i do can anyone recommend any programs that i can install that would give me easier dialing of numbers \ contacts, easier one handed operation etc. I love the look of the new Treo 750 and how they have modified the today screen to make the thing easy to use, can we not do the same on the Tytn Cheers Chris
Guest Dr Who Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 What is it you find difficult? For one handed operation I have contacts set as one of my softkeys, so can open the list straight away. Press and hold to scroll to the correct contact which on the Vario II is very quick because as soon as you scroll quickly through all the contacts for one 'letter' is switches to scroll through the letters rather than the contacts, i.e. goes a1, a2, a3, etc, b, c, d, e, f, g, etc is this the same on the TyTn? The only thing that does annoy me is having to press dial twice to actually make the call. Dialling a number is also pretty easy, just select phone from the today screen and tap the number in. I have actually been surprised at just how easy I find the Vario II to use as a phone without the stylus. BTW, I have phonepad installed but for some reason this doesn't integrate into the Contacts application very well. For instance if I use keyboard input it automatically T9's all the contacts but phonepad doesn't. Do the Tengo programs link into contacts in this way? If so I might invest inTengo Thumb.
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 You could try .Mobile Contacts (here at Handango) It's not free, not even cheap at $30, but worked well for me on my older WM2003 PPCPE. It can be a little slow to load, but once loaded works very well. I've not tried it on a WM5 device
Guest Kallisti Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 To call someone, I press green, T9 in their name and hit green again.. seems pretty simple to me...? I also don't get what the point of the phonepad app is? The default app T9's contacts, looks them up as you type etc..? I would probably prefer a larger button dialler though, my fingers are not huge, and I usually get the right numbers, it'd just be nice to be able to move over it more quickly.

Exactly the point of phonepad. A nice big 1(abc), 2(def), etc pad so that it is much easier to enter letters, which if it integrated into the contact window would work exactly like a smartphone.
Guest namiran Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 here is also a tip, set speed dial to some contacts you call often, then when you want to call them hit green phone, down button, go to the contact and hit green phone. Or you could hit green phone, up, then scroll through last calls if it is someone you've talked to recently
Guest stripeycat Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 I also gave the Tytn a good go but am waiting for the Treo 750 now... still touchscreen but it has the D-pad to get around with as well. If only Orange will get a move on and have it out the door inside the next year!
Guest swampcat Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 if you use iLauncher you can speeddial from your today screen

However, when I hold, it seems to put the "scroll request" into a buffer and keeps doing it when you release. Ie. you open contacts, press and hold down, it moves down a few then changes to A, B, C, D - and you think "stop on D", but by the time you let go, it keeps going... "E, F, G", you should 'STOPPPP' as it goes.. "H, I, J, K". Hmm! Any thoughts on that one or is it just a symptom of a busy o/s ?

Hmmm, is that to do with the bug identified in the first post on this page http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=244014&st=40 ???? Maybe accidentally pressing another key? Actually just tonight I have found a better way of dialing one handed. Go into the phone app (not contacts) and you can then use the on screen number/key pad for T9 contacts lookup. Even better a single press of dial actually dials the contact!
