Rubber bung gone!

Recommended Posts

Just pulled my Vario II out of the supplied case, and noticed the rubber bung that covers the external aerial connector is gone. No idea where it may have fallen out. Is there any way of getting a replacement? Or is anyone not using their's and willing to send it over at a small cost?

It's a quite chunky bung compared to others so one from a different device may not stay in. Until I start getting Hermes cases in stock I would think you're stuck unless someone else is kind enough to donate theirs? As there is no car kit I know of I can't see why someone else wouldn't want theirs though to stop dirt etc entering the device...

Might be worth dropping HTC a line - I've not dealth with them before but they might help:

As an interim measure I'd undo the battery cover and slip a small square of black plastic or card between the case and the cover.

They won't help sadly - they send people to me for parts....

Of course the other annoying thing is that it now doesn;'t sit still when typing on a flat surface. So no hope anyone? I can see it being alright if I stuck it in a case, but I'm not sure whether the Proporta/ADVERTISING SPAM one is that great.

Hardware shops sell self-adhesive black rubber squares to put on the base of things. You might be able to adapt one of these, maybe cut one out with a hole punch?

Never managed to find it. Its not been a pain in the ass or anything, its just the phone doesn't sit quite right.

Anyone managed to find a place that can replace the part yet. I might just give T-Mob a call to see what they can do, after all, we now have 2 Vario II's.

Well I've finally lost mine, and can't find replacements anywhere.

As an interim measure I tried cutting one out of one of those self adhesive sticky feet using a hole-punch and it is a perfect fit diameter wise, but is pretty much flush with the back panel rather than a little proud - I suppose I could try sticking two together...

It does the job protection wise and aesthetically looks like it was made to fit, but if anyone knows a source of the proper things...

They're just there to cover over the car aerial port that comes on most phones. I've never used the port, and usually loose the adapter at some point. In my vario's case, it was last week in Tescos, went under a display and I had the kids with me so I abandoned it to it's fate. It's probably still there :)

I'd never even realised it was covering something. I thought it was there to give some clearance for the camera lens when it's on a surface - the lens is completely flush with the back cover so could easily get scratched if moving it around on a table etc. The couple of millimetres extra height lifts it off a bit.

and what exactly does the car car aerial port do? is it used for charging or what is this for?

Lost mine too - a bit petty but a real annoyance while typing! HTC are missing a trick not selling replacements, after all they pop out all the time :)

If they did, everyone would just think they are deliberately loose tho :)

does the one from the sda work? that one would be my backup?

and why does this being gone make typing an annoyance?

and what does the thing under the rubber bung do? the car aerial port?

The car aerial port, is for when you are using your phone with a caqr kit. You have an external aerial fitted onto your car, and this port allows the phone to use it - gives better reception.
