Hi all. I just got myself a Motorola MPx220 and being a former Symbian user (I had a Nokia 3650 and a Panasonic X700 before) I've been finding it a bit cumbersome to use. I have some questions

1. Is there a good alarm clock program because the phone just rings once as the alarm where on my old Symbian phones, they continued ringing until you pressed Stop?

2. Is there a way to assign custom MP3/WMA ringtones stored on the miniSD card to each contact?

3. Are there any good essential programs?

4. Is there a way to create a shortcut for an EXE into the start menu?

and finally

5. Is there a way to have a scrolling grid menu, like in Symbian S60?

Thanks in advance

1. You can set the alarm to repeat in the registry, I'll dig up the key later today if no one else has. btw I suggest you get alarm set (http://smart.anderuso.net/) it's freeware and all it does is let you set the alarm without wading through the settings screen.

2. Yes and no. If you buy photo contacts you can assign rings from anywhere on your phone to any contact. But it's the only software to do so. What I do is put all my regular and sms type tones on the minisd (using rjv tonesetter) and then put all my contact mp3s in /storage/application data/sounds/

3. TCPMP (media player), RJV Tonesetter (store most of your ringtones wherever you want), Oxios Close App and Hibernate (close or free up memory from apps in the background respectively), AlarmSet (set alarm), RJV clock (stopwatch), Pocket SnapIt (screen capture), Unit Converter (pretty self explanatory), Flashlight (turns the flash on so you can use your phone as a flashlight), Oxios Task Plugin (homescreen plugin that displays tasks) and Playlist Manager 2003 (create wmp playlists). Those are the free ones.

The following aren't. Smart Explorer (file browser, shareware), ClearVue (office file viewer, not must have but nice, different packages available) and SmartPhone Notes (syncs notes with Outlook and lets you edit them and add new ones).

btw there was a thread about must have software for the mpx220 in the device specific discussion area, you should read that.

4. Yes. Using the file manager highlight the file you want to make a shortcut for, click menu, then file (option 1) then create shortcut (option 6). On the next screen browse to /storage/windows/start menu/. Select done.

5. no idea.

I too, wish someone would figure out how the Q does the endless scrolling of Startmenu items.
