Guest BAMN Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 i really wanna get quake on my spv. I only have the 8 meg card would it be possible to do and is it worth it some people on here seam to think it has spead there spv up! HELP what shall i do.
Guest pjc Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 I performed a hard reset on Tuesday without any trouble. Just make sure you follow the instructions in the Global thread here on the forum. Be aware that Orange Backup will not keep your MMS/SMS/Email (or it didnt do it for me anyway) so i lost all of that. Maybe the best thing to do is copy the entire IPSM directory on to your PC before doing the hard reset. I also only have the 8MB SD card (new one on order) and quake fits on it ok. It is well worth it for the unsigned apps that are available via this board. **DISCLAIMER** This is my own opinion and I had NO problems. People have screwed their phone so be careful.
Guest Rob.P Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Sorry to hijack this thread with a slimliar Q, but I have just done a hard reset (following the instructions in the thread), my phone has been sitting on the Orange screen (sunset) for just over 2 hours now, would this be a good indicator that it's screwed or have other people had this sort of wait?
Guest mikey808 Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Seems to me that for some reason your hard reset has failed...mine took a while...10 mins or so on the Orange screen, but 2 hours seems ridiculous...just try it again I say.
Guest HelloDave Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 A few people have had this happen to them. The most popular suggestion seems to be switch your phone off, take the batttery out for 10 seconds and then try erasing the IPSM and restarting (ie hard reset again). Make sure you take out your SD card when you hard reset too as this speeds things up. I was lucky and i've hard reset my SPV three times now (too eager with the decertification trick!) with no problems - it only stayed on the Orange screen for a couple of minutes each time.
Guest pjc Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 I also sat at the Orange sunset screen for about 10 minutes before the phone sprang back in to life.
Guest Rob.P Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Thanx people, just going trying your suggestions now, sitting at the Orange screen atm, will let you know in ten mins or so whether the little puppy springs back to life.
Guest BAMN Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 i will hard reset and install quake tonight when i get home from work ill keep you all posted thanks for your comments
Guest Rob.P Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Nope, puppy is still stuck on that screen, just stuck my SD card back in to restore from the full backup I did before doing the Hard Reset, hopefully that'll sort it out, anyone got a timescale on how long that process takes? Ignore the above, I'll be patient, it seems to be doing the job, I'll have another go when I get home at doing the hard reset, I'll try plugging it into the mains as well when I do it.
Guest pjc Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Ive had no experience of a hard reset going 'wrong' but ive established from reading other posts that this does sometimes happen. The most common advice ive seen is to try again and be patient. (also the time you sit at the orange sunset can vary according to other posts on the same subject) Good Luck Guys...
Guest Rob.P Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 I have a doubled barreled middle name of perseverence and patients ;) Another Q, the restore seems to have completed, I have success on all four parts (pboot, CE, gsm and IPSM) do I have to wait for any other messages? It's currently sitting at; Card Found BOOTLOADER WINCE GSM IPSM Press Action key to download Start download download pboot success download CE success download gsm success download IPSM success Do I have to wait for another message, or am I safe to switch off and on again? [EDIT] s'ok I just hit the power button again, phone is fully restored before a stupid idiot started playing with it (that'll be me then), going home to have another go.
Guest mike-oh Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 All this talk of quake!?!? Where the hell do i get it from? Interstella flames is great for impressin your mates, but damn it grows old fast!
Guest spacecowboy6982 Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Yeh, Quake and Doom sound hot as hell  - pokemon's getting a lil tiresome!! I'm sure they're out there somewhere, jus gotta find em'!! Any1 know nething bout the sound on these roms by the way?
Guest Gorskar Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 All these games are covered in the software forum, so I advise you check there to see their progress. Doom atm is an alpha version, not tried it yet, but apparently it does work ok ;) Gameboy emulator works well, but I will be looking forward to spacemonkey adding in multiple rom detection and key mapping. Sound would be something else, but hopefully it'll happen someday (hint hint  ) Quake is still under construction. (/me is looking forward to seeing that!)
Guest DJHope Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 Has anyone restored a backup yet? Did it restore everything back to how it was when you made the backup, including no cert? Cheers, DJ Hope
Guest Rob.P Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 DJ, I have PM'd you but just for the others as well, yeah if you do a full backup it is effectively taking an image of the phone, like Ghost imaging. When I did my backup I had my advanced media skin loaded (for bigger screen), when I mucked my phone up and couldn't get it working I did a full restore and the media skin was still there so it does quite a comprehensive backup of the static windows directory. A very handy backup facility if you mess with your phone and destroy it, good ole roll-back.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 Ah good, so we have confirmation that the restore works perfectly. Just need a spare 64mb SD card now :/ Cheers Rob.P
Guest BAMN Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 are these the best or only instructions for unlocking http://www.bornsloppy.co.uk/app-cert.htm
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 Its same as http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=1992 There is no "good" or "bad" method...
Guest pjc Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 Rob.P - how did you perfom a full backup? I have used Orange Backup and I lost my SMS/Email/MMS when i performed my hard reset. When i tried to take a copy of the IPSM directory it wouldn't let me move some files so i just relied on orange backup working!
Guest Rob.P Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 We're talking about the backup provided through the Bootloader menu, the one you come across when doing a Hard Reset. The instructions to do a Hard Reset will get you into the Diag screen, but instead of "erase IPSM" you want "save all", you will then see screen saying that it is formatting SD Card, then saving pboot, IPSM, CE, GSM, which is effectively taking an image of the entire phone (including cell functions, I presume that is what the GSM bit is all about). Take out card once done, cause if you leave it in and do a Hard boot then the below will happen. Then if your phone does shag itself up, then you can just stick your SD Card in and do a Hard boot, it will then automatically detect the backup files on the card and start restoring them.
Guest BAMN Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 here we go boys wish me luck i uncertifying now ill keep you informed.
