Hey all!

Well, since using a certain wm5 rom on an sp3i, i have fallen in love with wm5! the interface and customisability!

soo.....i plunged and bought a vodafone v1240! aqa xda iq, qtek 8310, sp5, tornado to name but a few!

what im curious about is all the nasty vodafone rubbish its likely to have on it!

is there a guide showing how to debrand these phones and actually make use of an i-mate rom for the sp5 as i do believe they are identical phones.

dont have the handset yet (bought this morning, should be here monday/tuesday) but im already itching to get it! also, i do believe these handsets can be unlocked? same way as before? edit registry, and use spv-services? the only other spv unlocking ive ever done was on my old e200 and that required patching the rom so im a little behind the times!

any help/advice/pointers to good software would be very much appreciated!

thank you!

the v1240 is not network locked. I'm not sure about application locked as I never got as far as installing anything on it that migth have required it.

the vodafone preloaded stuff isn't too much, basically a theme that can be changed, and I read that it was pre-configure for Vodafone push email, but I never found out where that was (sent mine back after a week). if it was preinstalled it didn't hinder me using regular email in any way.

to flash the imate AKU2 rom you'll first have to download the ROM from ftp://ftp.clubimate.com

Then you will need to CID unlock your phone in the same way you did when you flashed your sp3i with that certain wm5 rom. Must be application unlocked irst tho so use the attached registry editor to change the following values:

HKLM/Security/Policies/Policies/00001001 = 1

HKLM/Security/Policies/Policies/00001005 = 40

HKLM/Security/Policies/Policies/0000101b = 1

then use the CID tool found with SPV-Services at http://www.spv-developers.com to CID unlock your phone (CID=11111111)

Then run the imate aku2 update and your away

i personally prefer the imate rom to the qtek rom but whatever floats your boat.

as for software SmartExplorer from http://www.binarys.com is great. some poeple like resco better but i much prefer smart explorer.

PocketTV is a must if your going to want to watch mpeg 1 movies on your phone http://www.pockettv.com

Tornado PowerControl is great for customising your power management, also include an overclocker for your phone.

You'll definately need a registry editor if you want to do any tweaking so i've attached the good old HTC signed one

wm5torage also available from modaco is a must, it allows you to convert your phone into a mass storage device for transfering files to and from your storage card without activesync

Best of all, all of the software i've listed above is FREE :(

Hope this helps

Phil

So is the v1240 unlocked by default? I'm buying one off ebay and the seller says the phone is new, but has been opened to unlock it. Is he pulling a fast one? <_<

As far as I know, no Vodafone phones are network locked.

I had a v1240 for about a week, and out of the box I put my Orange SIM in it no problems so it's fine.

It's possible your seller means application unlocked (if the v1240 is ?), but I doubt an average seller would go to that trouble...

i bought one off ebay and in the description thing at the top said it was locked to vodafone. but as soon as i got it, put in my o2 sim and away i went. so i don't think they come locked, could be wrong though.

The description said 'network unlocked'.

I actually ended up sending my v1240 back as it wasn't new. The seller was advertising brand new and I confirmed via email. When it came, it was a refurbished model. So I sent it back and I'm waiting for my refund.

In the meantime, I have purchased another v1240 from another seller,

v1240's are just rebadged QTEK's in that you can go on the QTEK website and register with your IMEI.

V1240's come unlocked (as a QTEK does)

My V1240 was unlocked too. I went to qtek website and registered with my imei number and downloaded the latest rom and installed it. Now I have a totally debranded phone PLUS with Pocket MSN too installed which Vodafone decide to remove from their rom.

Now I have just ordered an official Qtek 8310 replacement housing to replace the vodafone housing. All in total worked out cheaper than just buying a second hand qtek 8310.

It was mentioned that some prefer the imate rom to the qtek one. Can I ask what is the difference between the two? Any extra apps or something?

Cheers!

:( where did you get your Qtek 8310 replacement housing from? Been looking EVERYWHERE for one of these!

As for imate VS qtek ROMs its just little niggling things about the OS really.

For example on the qtek ROM, when you press a few numbers on your keypad and a list of possible matches comes up, if you scroll down to one and press action it'll automatically dial it, however on the imate rom you get the contact\call history details. the auto dial feature of the qtek rom really annoyed me after a while.

On the i-mate ROM you also get the option to switch between Serial and RNDIS USB modes when connecting to active sync.

And on the Qtek ROM you had to go into comm manager to kill an active GPRS connection. On the i-mate rom you can just simply press the END button once.

Also the i-mate ROM's are easier to get hold of than the qtek/vodafone ones

Stuff like that really that means the imate ROM works better for me

Just copy and paste the line below into eBay's search field:

original i-mate SP5 dopda 577 housing

Still waiting for mine to be delivered.

As for the rom differences, I did remember that when I typed in letter to find a name and pressed the joystick it came up with the details screen to call mobile, send text message, send email etc. Now on the qtek rom pressing the joystick automatically dials number. You are correct and it IS annoying. Surely there must be a tweak some clever fellow or lass out there can do to make it as per imate/vodafone way?

I guess it should be no problem to install the imate rom over the qtek one i just installed. right?

Just CID unlock the way described in the 3rd post in this thread. and then run the i-mate Rom update
