Guest mrjuglas Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Help! I just won an auction for a Jasjam on Ebay - item number 230032113624. If it were for real I'd be over the moon but I'm extremely suspicious for the following reasons: Member 4501Bruno is registered in Italy and this item is being sold from Hong Kong. All positive feedback for member was given 2 days ago on items bought for 1 cent each. No pics of actual item. Member sold 2 of these, 2 Tytns, 2 Nokias and 2 Ipacs all on 24hr auction ending at more or less the same time but has never sold before. Member is requesting that I transfer money to a bank account in Beijing in the name of a Chinese person. Everything I've seen, even his email address: svz8f8m55@***.com point to this being a scam... So what should I do? Any ideas? Link to item: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...:B:EOIBSA:UK:31
Guest samsul Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Definately a scam, DO NOT SEND YOUR MONEY. Have you noticed how he/she managed to get 12 positive ratings? They have simply bought 12 items at 1pence each and paid for them. This is a trick people use to scam people who don't know eBay system well. My advise is AVOID THIS SELLER!!!!
Guest fluffcat1 Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Screams scam extremely loudly...give it a day or so and I bet ebay pull the seller anyway. Richard
Guest mrjuglas Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 I tried to let Ebay know about this yesterday so they could stop the auction but they just sent an automatic email back. In the end I thought there's no harm in bidding because I could get some proof that they have the item before I send it or I could refuse to pay, but 7 other people have bid for his other items and they might not realise that it's fake... I sent an email to the seller yesterday too and received no reply. Ebay doesn't seem to have any guidance for these circumstances but I'm pretty sure I'm not protected if I'm not paying through PayPal
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Even if you did pay through paypal you are not always as protected as you think. Just don't pay the guy and make sure you have reported the auction correctly. The automated message from ebay is normal.
Guest Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 I wouldn't touch that with a 20ft barge pole .........
Guest w411y Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 I wouldn't touch that with a 20ft barge pole ......... Bet you havn't even got one
Guest pisquee Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 Closest I could find ... Ebay Item number: 320032387494
Guest Sp00k Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 Would you care to give an update on this mrjuglas? I see that the seller is no longer a registered eBay member...
Guest mrjuglas Posted October 21, 2006 Report Posted October 21, 2006 ooh, I hadn't noticed that... no-one informed me. I decided not to pay the guy, obviously, and tried to inform the others who had bought from the same guy. I informed Ebay too and got a reply back that I shouldn't pay, but the transaction just stayed in My Ebay as unpaid and they didn't seem to do anything about it.. until now. I've still been looking for a Hermes and I've noticed loads of these scammers all of them have feedback recently generated on items of little value and are registered in various European countries but sending the goods from China mainly or Hong Kong. I still wonder if I would have been sent something if I'd sent the money... but that's how they con people.

I very much doubt that you'd have received what you paid for... If a price looks too good to be true, it's a pretty safe bet that it is! Especially on sites such as eBay. That's not to say that there aren't bargains to be had though... Better luck next time, my friend. Edited October 21, 2006 by Sp00k
