Guest peekie Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 As we have seen on many websites the news that htc have dumped imate and o2 , so what does this mean for orange and t-mobile ? were the spv m3100 and vario2 the final special version phones for these networks ? , coming in october are the htc trinity and excaluber both by orange do not have the usual m name only the name orange before the model name, and the orange logo is on the back of the phones. By nokia phones suppied by both networks all they have is a small logo added but the name nokia remains on the phones , if you look at the current models all they have is a added cab file that gives it the orange and tmobile extras , remove these and both phones contents are the same. It looks like we will be in the future we will all have a htc branded phone in our pockets from both networks which is a shame , what do you guys think is this a good thing or a bad thing for both the smartphones and ppc phones future ?
Guest jimbouk Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I am not sure I understand the question. The networks launched their own branded/signature devices/phones a few years back. Most people think the "SPV" was the first signature device but in fact the first phone you could get on O (about 12 years ago) was called the Nokia Orange (although it was very much a Nokia through and through). Personally I think its great that the networks and the branded device houses share the market. If there weren't people like HTC making devices then we would only have the choice of say four or five manufacturers' devices. I do think it is tough for the Imate's of this world, who provided phone users all over the world yet more choice - but thank god that any network customisations on their WM signature devices can be either eaisly removed by the user (or via third party developers).
Guest peekie Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 The branding side is what seems to be changing HTC it seems wants its own logos on the phones instead of the orange or t mobile logos , i just think and i hope iam wrong is that the future htc phones will be exacltly the same on each network , not like the differnent models we have on the hermes models at the moment , thats one thing the uk has had is a choice if you like the t-mobile version for its colour scheme which does look better in real life than on the net or the black m3100 from orange , its nice to be able to choose but if htc do the same as it reportly has with o2 and imate then we could loose that choice of colour ect and that would be a bad thing .
