Reception with Vario II

Recommended Posts

I have a few instances now where the Vario II on T-mobile has little or no reception in circumstances where a Vodafone blackberry works fine. A couple of instances inside in the city come to mind. Has anyone else had this problem? It is difficult as I am using the push email to replace my blackberry.

Unless I have misread this - you appear to be trying to compare reception on two different networks?

This is not really a valid test I fear!

I was wondering if you are connected to the network in 3g mode?

as far as I am concerned, 3G coverage is not that perfect yet.

please try to switch band to GSM istead of AUTO just for day or two.

see if your network connection is improved. BB is 2G device and therefore reception could be better on BB for you.

Good idea. I will give that a try and see how I go. I assumed the device would drop back into 2G.

And yes I am comparing two different networks but I would be surprised if there were coverage problems in the middle of the City to this extent. could of course be wrong.

I've found that either my VArio II or T-mobile still isn't too good at switching between 2G and 3G.

When i'm in strong 3G coverage I have no problems, but if I have weaker (2bars shown) coverage I find that I can often miss calls and net access varies between great and awful. I think quite a lot of this is when it tries to switch to 2G having struggled on 3G for a couple of seconds.

If I set it to 2G, then I've seen no problems.

It's worth mentioning that 3G reception is often rubbish indoors, too.
