Internet on M3100 - Cannot connect?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm having some problems with my M3100. I've had the phone a few weeks and been more than happy with it, mostly use WiFi tbh, but at the weekend i had call to use the gprs fucntions on the phone for agile messenger and internet browsing.... or so i hoped!

Now MMS works 100% on the phone, i can send + receive mms images + videos fine over GPRS so that side of thigns seems to be setup correctly.

But whenever i try to make an internet or wap connection from any app (or indeed from the connections panel by forcing a "Connect") it fails. I see it try to make the connection then I just get a

"Cannot connect for an unkown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again."

Which of course i've just done, a full hard-reset, but to no avail, still get the same error.

Been on hold to orange on 150 for 15 mins now and given up, can anyone else offer any advice on how to get it working?

Thanks

Number of things to check:

Under Menu >Settings, Connections Tab> Connections check that for INTERNET it is set to use ORANGE WORLD (ORANGE INTERNET) not AUTO PICK or Orange WAP (Orange now recommend this as default).

Manage Existing Connections:

Check the settings are as follows:

Username:

Password

Domain:

Click Advanced and check that Assign IP is autmatic and not hard coded, check DNS is automatic (you could hard code this later for speed of initial connection but for purposes of getting a connection at all)

Click Ok/Finish to get back to main connections screen then check the proxy server for WAP

On the connections tab, click Setup My Proxy Server

Tick "This network connects to the internet" and "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet"

Then click the Advanced button and enter proxy servers as follows:

HTTP

WAP 192.168.71.35:9201

Secure WAP

Socks

Click OK then OK again.

Click Advanced tab and check that under "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:" is set to Orange World Or Ornage Internet

Normally the second option for private network is set to "My Work network".

One last check under Settings > Connections Tab > Network cards icon > Network Adapters Tab

is that "My network card connects to:" is set to "The Internet".

On settings > Connections > GPRS Setting icon check that "PAP" is selected.

Also ensure that Wifi doesnt have hard coded static Ip and DNS else because of a bug in Win Mobile 5, you will get "Locating..." for up to two minutes for each internet address in Internet Explorer whe connecting via 3G/GPRS even with wifi OFF.

Also remember to ask orange to turn off Orange Safeguard (porn filter) as your internet will be faster if you do as wont have to hit a content filtering server. I found that it blocks legitimate blogs if its On ! You can also turn off by Orange World menus when you first load up IE

or via this link

Turn OFF Orange Safeguard:

on your mobile device.

Good luck with Orange CS !

They were totally inept and could only talk from script cards when I tried getting help with my "locating..." message in Internet Explorer. They basically said there was no problem etc etc etc despite me giving them two definate problems with traffic TV not "being available for this phone" and Orange World stating content "was only available for Orange Phones" !

Funny how 2 days after my call they fixed these two issues on the quiet.

In the end after hard reset of my device and working through which bit broke the 3G I found that it was static Ip/DNS for the Wifi router. After setting to automatic the 3G/GPRS would then resolve instantly and didnt have to wait two minutes for a web page. Obviously its a bug cause it Wifi settings should not affect 3G/GPRS (even more so as Wifi would have been OFF!).

You will prob find they will bounce you person to person and people supposed to ring you back then they don't (and I WAS a polite customer when I was dealing with them).

If you receive better service though, cherish the moment; its VERY rare with Orange CS, they have got so complacent over the past few years. Even the woman said triumphantly "oh we have more people on our network than the others" as if the Internet issue I had at the time would be acceptable because of her ridiculous statement !!!!! grrrrrr!!!!

All the best with Orange CS, fingers crossed lol ;)

LOL.

I normally get the Sugababes and "Red Dress" playing at awful phone quality down the line.

Everytime I sort of chuckle when the computer announcer says "We are experiencing high call volumes and you may experince a delay" - been like this for years EVERY single time I phone !

The call muppets then say "Its because of the free broadband offer" - Cr@p, been like this on Orange for years - well before broadband !!!!!

Contrast with O2 - Got excellent customer service - sorted out with one person on 99% of the time, retentions department that did their best to keep me. Only reason I left was they didnt offer the phone and the reception on O2 is terrible in my area of London (yet fine in others). Also 3G was much better on Orange.

Well was a record-beating 41 minutes on hold!!! Got put though to a scripted guy who eventually said "let me pass you on to someone else" then 5 mins later i get put through to a very usefull lady who said "ooh i see the problem, let m sort it now", a system text message later and it's all working!!

But my god, absolutely dreadfull customer service, absolutely dreadfull.

Look on the nright side:

1) They did manage to sort your problem - thats rare in itself ;)

2) You didnt get cut off during transfer which I did during peak day rate on landline

lol
