Guest froggyoggy Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 hi, I wrote in this forum a while back, regarding that I got hold of an m3100. Unfortunately I got rid of it as quick as I got it for many reasons. Anyway, I don't want to look at the past and need help deciding what phone to go for this time. These are some of the phones I've been looking at:- Orange SPV c600 HTC MTeoR Nokia N71, N73, N80, N91, N93 Sony erricsson p900i, k810i This is what I need my phone for:- 1. Browsing web 2. Usage of applications 3. Like a phone which can be highly tweaked (like a PC) 4. Don't like a phone which has no physical phone keypad to dial out 5. Don't like a phone which is too big 6. The main usage for my phone is to make calls. 7. Reasonable camera 8. A phone which can have Tomtom software on it. I don't mind WM5 or SYMBIAN mobile operating systems, although I definately want a phone which is very flexible as I plan to load applications onto it. So what can you guys recommend? Thanks for your advice

Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 The C600 is less than a year old and you can not compare a PocketPC to a Smartphone, I've nto had any problems with it and from you description of bulky I can only think you are thinking of a different device. As for Nokia etc this is the wrong forum, you need a symbian forum or www.mobiholics.com for information on those devices.

Okay..if the c600 is not bulky, what is the difference in power and functionality, between the C600 and the M3100? Would you say the m3100 has much more powerful hardware? Speed? etc.. Regarding WM5 VS SYMBIAN - Other than WM5 and SYMBIAN being different operating systems, what is the diffference between them? Are there any compatibility issues with eithier of them? Can you recommend any symbian forums, where i can do more research?
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 WM5 and Sybian are two completely different systems and are not compatable with each other. Betwen the C600 and 3100 forget about hardware differences as that is not the important bit. Tey are again two completely different devices. The C600 is a phone first where as the 3100 is a PocketPC that has phone functionality.

I was looking for a device that has the functionality similar to a PC, but most importantly still remained useablt mainly as a phone device. A few things I was not happy about the C600 were:- It has a low quality (1.3mp) camera with no flash They have got rid of the "Orange Backup" facility...useful for a quick backup of everything Memory I believe is too small, although this I can upgrade at an extra cost It has an issue where the screen backlight stays constantly on, draining the battery I could be wrong but I don't think it has GPS built-in?? Now that you know what I'm looking for, ie a C600 or a similar device, surely can you not give me a few more names and model numbers that I can research on and decide which one I like? As long as they function the same or similar as a C600, then I'm happy. Many thanks for your valuable advice!
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Memory is not too small, it's comparable to other devices and can not be upgraded. If you mean storage then as with other devices you have been looking at, you need to get a storage card. As for other devices, do you want them on contract? if not then how much do you want to spend? otherwise secondhand look at ebay.
