Guest duke_stix Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Hey all Well my V1240 ought to be here today, and im wondering which firmware would be best to use with the phone. should i stick with the vodafone one, or should i go over to the Qtek one or even the I-Mate or O2 rom updates? which comes with the least amount of branding?! thanx
Guest furby Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 The vodafone has no branding on it. Apart from the homescreen which you can change. You wouldn't be able to tell otherwise. Had the qtek one before and coudln't see any advantages. Stick with the vodafone one, saves you having to find all the network settings as well

Just little irritating things i didnt like about both the v1240 and 8310 firmwares. However i've got my own custom rom now so its a mix of imate sp5, SPV c600 and qtek all with the MoDaCo bootscreen by me that can be found HERE  *Back on topic* i-Mate SP5 firmware works the best for me Phil
Guest furby Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 *Back on topic* i-Mate SP5 firmware works the best for me What stuff is better, haven't tried the i-mate ROM
Guest The Doctor Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 What stuff is better, haven't tried the i-mate ROM Just little niggling things about the OS really. For example on the qtek ROM, when you press a few numbers on your keypad and a list of possible matches comes up, if you scroll down to one and press action it'll automatically dial it, however on the imate rom you get the contact\call history details. the auto dial feature of the qtek rom really annoyed me after a while. On the i-mate ROM you also get the option to switch between Serial and RNDIS USB modes when connecting to active sync. And on the Qtek ROM you had ot go into comm manager to kill an active GPRS connection. On the i-mate rom you can just simply press the END button once. Also the i-mate ROM's are easier to get hold of than the qtek/vodafone ones  Stuff like that Phil
Guest duke_stix Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 hmm.... phil, will try your rom on saturday. just getting acquainted with the phone right now! it arrived. aaaaaaand, to my surprise, i didnt receive the 'used with slight scratches' one but in fact a brand new one with the stickers and plastic all over it still.lol. but unfortunately i cant register with i-mate, so im gna need to get the latest i-mate rom update from somewhere. just quick ask, if im not mistaken i have to: app unlock (via reg edit) load spv services set cid=11111111111111....etc run imate update and away i go?! unfortunately my v1240 has a silver keypad opposed to the black one i would've liked, but hey! anyone know where to get a clear plastic case for this phone cheap in the uk/bham?! ta

Guest The Doctor Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 oooooooook, so which one do i download?! theres a million and 1 roms on that site! assuming 'sp5 WWE'? you either want SP5 WWE 2.6.333 or something like that or if you can live without support for obscure languages you can try SP5 NRE 2.6.333 or whatever the version is. The NRE ROM actually leaves you with slightly more storage memory, which is precious on the HTC Tornado! btw NRE stands for Northern Region English Phil

Thanks for the info, I was considering flashing my v1240 with the I-mate ROM but I'm probably better off sticking with the Vodafone one.
