Guest Joff Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Hi all, I am the lucky owner of a Vario II with T-Mobile's fantastic Web'n'Walk data plan  I have been reading your posts guys for the past 2 weeks, thanks to you all for being so helpful. It is time for me to contribute back to the community. So I thought I would write this step-by-step guide on how to set your Vario II as a Infrared Modem. The settings only apply to T-Mobile. I went on business trip the other day and forgot to take the USB cable with me, duh! So I was only left with the Infrared option on the laptop. Of course, at the time I failed to set-up Vario II Infrared link because I didn't have the information at hand... On your Vario II ------------------- 1) Go to Start > Programs > Wireless Modem 2) Select IrDA as your "Connection Type" 2) Press the "Menu" button and select "APN Setting" 3) Tick the option "Preset GPRS Connection" 4) use general.t-mobile.uk as your APN and press Done 5) Now start the IR link by pressing Menu > Start On your Laptop ------------------ 1) Align the Vario II and Laptop infrared ports 2) Windows XP should automatically detect the IR link and tell you it has detected a new IR modem 3) In the dialog box select the "Install software automatically" option and click "Finish". OK, now we are ready to use the VARIO IR modem. But we still need to create a new IR modem dial-up connection: 4) click Start > Settings > Control Panel 5) Double click Network Connections 6) Click File > New Connection and then Next 7) Select "Connect to the Internet" and then Next 8) Select "Setup my connection manually" and Next 9) Select "Connect using a dial-up modem" and Next 10) There should be a list of modems, select the one called "Standard Modem over IR link..." and Next 11) Give your new connection a sensible name e.g. "T-mobile Vario II IR" and Next 12) Use *99# as the Phone Number and click Next 13) Use username t-mobile 14) Use password one2one and click Next and Finish That's it, you should now be able to start your Vario II IR modem. Cheers, Joff
