Guest Paulplex Posted October 2, 2006 Report Posted October 2, 2006 Hi all, didn't want the M3100 specifically for this but - as with any new toy - I'm trying to get the most out of my new M3100. Searching for - and eventually finding 'Remote Control II' from WinCESoft - I now have software on my phone allowing me to learn the IR codes of my other remote controls. With DVD player, amplifier, hi-fi, Pinacle show center, TV and VCR, I want to reduce the clutter of remotes and my new phone seems to be the way forward. ...or at least it would, if the range was better. It seems that although the IR works to control the device I'm pointing at (and why is the IR on the bottom of the phone?!), I've got to have the phone no more than a foot away from the device I'm trying to control. At that rate, I'll just get out of the chair and press the 'on' button myself. Aside from the position of the IR port on the phone (which doesn't matter since the remote control software lets you rotate the screen easily), is this a problem others have found - ie, very poor range from the IR port on the phone? Its not the end of the world - I didn't by mistake buy this phone intending to go out and buy a universal remote - but it would be nice to know if its a limitation of the phone or something I should talk to Orange about (ie, a defect). I am certain I have read elsewhere that the range is very poor - really only intended for use as a short range link for tethering to a laptop/pda etc Pretty sure yours is the same as all the rest!
