SPV C500 signal problems

Hi guys,

I've been having some signal problems with my SPV C500 during the last 5 months. The main problem is that after I get put of a low-signal or no-signal zone my SPV won't register to the network. I took it 3 times to the dealer shop and each time they said they tested the phone and everything is fine. A month ago it's 1 year warranty expired and if I'd like to receive the same reply I have to pay them.

After crossing a low-signal areas, like after I use the elevator, it shows full signal, the Orange operator logo and the GPRS logo, but when I call it rings for about 5 or 6 times and then it automatically stops the call just like the other party canceled the call. If I go through a no-signal area, like between some subway stations, it keeps searching for the network but it won't connect at all.

Unfortunately, each time I can't be called as the phone does not register on the network.

The only solution so far was to shut down and start the phone and that takes ages or use the "Airplane" mode, that cuts the signal. Unfortunately, the "Airplane" mode will also start Bluetooth in Discoverable mode and that annoys me. Not to mention that I might pass through some low-signal zones and I'll find that out only when I'll try to call somebody.

My best guess is that there's some problem with the software. I've sucessfully completed a number of hard-resets but nothing changed. I guess the only remaining option is to format the memory and do a full reinstall with the Windows Mobile 2003 SE software but I don't know how or what I'll need. If somebody could guide me through the steps or point out a link where this is explained it would be great.

I have an Orange SPV C500 smartphone with the default Windows Mobile 2003 SE operating system, bought from Orange Romania. Here are the numbers in the Settings > About screen:

Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition

Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14217)

Radio version 0 <--- when I change the language to Romanian it shows 1337.0.32_0.03.18

ROM Update versions:

Operator: 4.1.1.10.3

Manufacturer: 1.1.10.130

Microsoft: 4.21.14217

Language: 1.1.10.130

File System: 4.21.14217.0

Any help appreciated.

It's worth updating to the latest software to see if that helps.

You can download the software HERE

I got an error: "Invalid vendor ID". It's probably because I bought it from Orange Romania instead of Orange UK.

I talked to one of the Orange guys on the phone and my version seems to be the latest version for Romania and they said they didn't support other ROMs, like the one from Orange UK.

exactly the same here. No Signal, no warranty. :(

Makes you wonder if that is a feature

I just did a hard-reset, maybe that helps.
