I can't for the life of me seem to be able to view any videos on the BBC News website with my Vario II.

When i click on the link for the video news, i get redirected to a page telling me there is a problem and that I need to have java enabled!!

Does anybody know if there are are setting that i need to adjust in order to be able to view these videos?

I have both windows media player and realone player installed, either of which is required nornally in order to view video news from the Beeb.

Anyone?

Am i the only person who has tried to view videos online, or am I the only one with the problem?

I don't have an MDA, but does this work?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/avdb/news_web/...d0d_16x9_bb.asx

[On my M3100 this plays audio with no video!]

Whoops - forgot that I have to change the network bandwidth to get anything to play!

If I change the bandwidth up to LAN speed - this works fine(ish).

I think the problem with most streaming IS the bandwidth/bitrate. Most videos seem to be setup for a quite high bit rate and Media Player tries to make an intelligent decision what to do when the allowed bitrate is much lower than the bitrate of the stream.

I think you probably have to locate streams that are configured for low bit rates.

[ Note - I really don't know much about streaing - this is just my take on the situation!]

I have tried this before - with no luck.

I think it is the players embedded in the BBC website that cause the problems. I have, in the past, extracted the URL's and just used them - and things seem to work then.

I know this topic in ancient, but as it's *vaguely* related to my problem I thought I'd use it !

I can manage to download and/or stream some videos from the bbc site to my vario 2 via thei links ok, but when I play them, the video is never full screen (despite the always full screen option being selected) and the video usually stutters (audio ok).

I don't have this problem with non-bbc clips I have, and have seen the bbc clips run under media10 on an ipac fine.

Is this just me, or is it a vario limitation ?

thanks

I've found that even with the network settings tweaked for optimal performance, and custom DNS servers put in, streams tend to take a while to initialise in WMP. Once they're going though, as long as you don't touch / breath on your device, they work fine.

I often use Ben Metcalfe's BBC News A/V scraper (which is still VERY MUCH in beta) - more info from http://bbcnews.benmetcalfe.com/

Basically it takes the various sections and formats them into plain old .asx links for your mobile device, works really well. You have to browse the directory index to click on the right link, but they're all there - I was thinking about making my own html page with the links nicely formatted which I could go to instead of having to browse his directory listings every time, but I got lazy and didn't bother.

Ben Metcalfe's scraper is a very useful site though... I also gathered together some links from the Beeb site for my own usage and posted them up on a thread on XDA-Developers - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277870 and also see this reply (also from me) in the same thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...mp;postcount=38 for some more links to both TV and radio streams.

Enjoy ;)
