Hey guys...

I've had my T-mobile SDA for about 6 months now, and I've kept a screen protector on it for almost the entire time. They are kind of a pain though. I have used expensive ones and cheap ones and homemade ones. They do seem to help prevent scratches, but they come off and need replaced every few weeks, and take time to put on smoothly without bubbles.

My question is... any of you SDA (or equivalent) users go without a screen protector? If so, how scratch resistent is the screen under normal conditions? (in pocket most of the time without a case)

I would love to skip the protectors but not if it's gonna get all scratched up. it doesn't seem real easy to replace the screen.

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks,

Lobojpm

I personally use the Palm screen protectors and cut them to fit. They are perfectly clear and stay on till your ready to remove them. I wouldn't go without one unless you are willing to replace the screen at some point.

Have you tried the Martin fields Screen protectors - yes they take a couple of attempts to apply correctly but they're bubble free once properly fitted and stay attached.

This is the best I've found, it works great: http://www.overlayplus.com/US/dis_product....n=i-Mate%20SP5m

Unless you have some sort of case in place, you can expect more frequent replacements as the protector is slightly raised about the surface of the phone, its edges get rubbed and brushed against, and do become loose after a couple months. Even a simple case like those at http://www.boxwave.com will provide a raised area around the screen to prevent it from happening.

Kind of a no-brainer. If you use a protector, you won't get scratches. If you don't use a protector, you will get scratches.

I've seen so many recomandations of creating homemade screen protectors out of clear vynil tablecloth.

I have something like that, made out of the vynil sheet that came with the c600 and it sticked like glue on the screen, unfortunately I've made it a little to small so it does not completely cover the screen (1mm at the top) and it still has some bubbles. I will like to find that vynil tablecloth in some store and try it out!

Well, rather than keeping that slice of film on the screen of my 2125 (i don't know how you got it to stay on for so long); I purchased a nice, leather glove fit case w/ built-in screen and keypad protection from Fortte. They have some real nifty cases for other types of devices as well and we aren't just talking about phones.

Oh yeah, when they say glove fit, they really mean it. I had to have my fiance put the glove on my phone in 'cause it was so tight, perfect.

The screen on my 2125 had a bunch of bad scratches (wife would always put it face down) and it took AGES to remove them with polishing compound.

Whatever coating is on the plastic is VERY strong but not strong enough to withstand heavy scratching obviously.

My SMT-5600's display looked brand new when I sold it and it was always in use. When my Wizard comes back (got a faulty one), I will be using a screen protector since the display is pretty much defenseless.

Over the last couple of weeks I've managed to keep the oem screen protector on my v1240 and this morning my new case arrived.

I've always used Krussel leather cases, but thought I'd try something different this time. I then discovered this case on ebay.

I'm very happy with it. I got a black one and it's very discreet. It doesn't add too much bulk to the phone and should protect it from everyday knocks and scratches.

The only thing that put me off it was it doesn't cover the screen or keypad. But as my screen film is still on, I'm hoping this will suffice.

I am using the cheap one from http://contents.fifthunit.com/html/products.5th/sku.41.html for 2 months. It is easy to install, no bubbles and did not come out since installed. The screen is easy to get scratch. It screen was scratched before so I did polish to and removed those scratches before installing screen protector.

Hey guys...

A while back I did get one of the Martin Fields (Overlay Plus) screen protectors, and wow, it does work much better than anything else I've tried. Mine has been crystal clear for a couple of months now. It's as clear as it is without a protector, and with no bubbles.

One question for anyone who has used this brand- It mentions that you can remove, wash, and replace it. Has anyone really tried this? Seems kind of hard to believe (does it lose the "sticky" side?). But mine is finally starting to show a small lift at one corner, so I was wondering if it would be worth it to try a clean and replace.

Thanks!

Ive never used any screenprotectorns for any of my phones. My qtek 8300 did get a lot of small scratches. Its annoying just knowing that they are there, but they do not bother me very much.

Today i bought a screen polish to get rid of them for 40sek approx 6 dollars. The screen had a very hard surface over the "plastic" so i had to rub hard and long to get rid of it and the scratches are now gone. The plastic is not as smooth anymore its a little like water with waves but that dosent bother att all.

I think the screen has a good scratchprotection.

EDIT: Is there any way to replace the plastic with a new one?

I'm one of those guys who reads this site everyday but never replies to anything - thought it would be noting me 2p down for this one though. I used a Orange C500 (Typhoon variant) for about a year without a screen protector, in my pocket, without a case - never had a scratch on it (guess i was careful). Since I bought myself a touch-screen based device (Dopod 818 Pro (Prophet variant)) I have been using a Boxwave ClearTouch Crystal screen protector. I used one of these on a Dell Axim x3i for the past 3 years or so and have to date never had to remove it, nor have there been any bubbles (none at all) behind the screen - you just cannot tell its there. The day I bought it I had a few attempts at cleaning it and applying it properly (in the bathroom with the hot shower running so the steam made sure there was no dust floating around). The afore-mentioned screen protector is the non-sticky-but-take-off-and-put-back-on-as-many-times-as-you-like kind - as far as i can gather its actually naturally every so slightly concave, which means it will stick down perfectly every time. Now both the screen protector on my Dopod 818 Pro and my Dell Axim x3i have a few lights scratches on it from general stylus and the odd non-pushed-out ballpoint pen use, but none permanently on my screen :).

Lobojpm,

I would think that if you don't put your phone in the same pocket with your keys or other things then you will get less scratches, but if you're always using your phone a screen protector couldn't hurt. We offer screen protectors which are re-usable, and washable at www.boxwave.com.

For non touch screen devices I don't bother with a screen protector. For my ds lite I use a cheap pda one cut to fit (fellows I think), it works fine. And when I get my mda I'll be using another one from the same pack as my ds lite.

The ClearTouch screen protectors that are available at Boxwave.com are great. I never had any trouble and it protected the screen against abuse in my wife's purse!! I just got a replacement phone (b/c of software issues) and I'll get the same protector for this one.

Peace <><
