Guest Paul (MVP) Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Microsoft have just released the first public release, Beta 3, of their 'Windows Mobile Device Center' for Windows Vista. This application replaces ActiveSync in the new OS! WMDC provides PIM sync, photo sync, and enhanced file browsing compared to ActiveSync, with the device appearing as a 'real drive' with the same context menus available as files on the physical machine, or, as Microsoft would put it... The Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center Beta 3 enables you to set up new partnerships, synchronize content and manage music, pictures and video with any Windows Mobile 2003 or Windows Mobile 5.0 powered device. Windows Mobile Device Center Beta 3 is only supported on builds of Windows Vistaâ„¢ RC1 or later. Guest Ingvarr Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 (edited) Was anybody able to actually synchronize anything with, say, Windows Contacts or Windows Calendar? It appears to synchronize with no error but to no effect for me - nothing is actually transferred in any direction. Edited October 7, 2006 by Ingvarr
Guest barnabyg Posted October 8, 2006 Report Posted October 8, 2006 Was anybody able to actually synchronize anything with, say, Windows Contacts or Windows Calendar? It appears to synchronize with no error but to no effect for me - nothing is actually transferred in any direction. I don't think it syncs with the Windows Contacts/Calendar - I think it is only Outlook that it'll sync with. It is confusing: when you setup the Partnership on first connecting the Contacts and Calender options are checked but disabled, say underneath "Already synchronizing Contacts" but the tooltip over them says "To synchronize with this PC , install and configure Outlook and choose a different source in Change Content Settings"!? The Mobile Favourites does sync correctly for me at least - I can see them in IE Favorites.
