SPV M500 cradle sound problems

I have an Orange SPV M500 and recently bought a car cradle so i can use my TomTom software through the phone, this all works great except when i push the phone into the cradle, as it cuts off the sound.

The cradle itself comes integral with a male phono plug and a male mini usb plug, the SPV M500 slides in neatly and pushes into place, the red light comes on the cradle and the phone starts to charge, all except with no sound, is there a setting or something i cant find to switch the phone over to an external speaker ??
