I have just got a free bluetooth GPS receiver that I am going to use with my M3100.

I don't drive so it will really just be a toy for walking and finding directions etc in strange places. Anyone got any recomendations for cool GPS software for to buy and for free?

No, but I'd be interested if you find anything. Most of the discussion on GPS seems to be exclusively driving related. I know some of the better sat nav software will do pedestrian routes as an add on but they're no use for footpaths and bridleways.

IIRC iGo has a 'walking' mode...

Any idea where I can buy this?

Just about to start a new post, but may as well join in with this one.

Although I have TomTom on my M600 (which is great)

I am looking for software in which I can go running with.

All I really need it to do is measure distance travelled, but would be nice if it would do average speed although I could work it out!

It just need very simple features

Anyone using a good one???

Thanks

Adam

Im looking into the GPS gear now too. I have the iGuidance software, borrowed from a friend, and interested in Bluetooth GPS recievers for the MDA. Ive been told to only get one's w/ the Sirf III chipset because they are accurate and quick.

also, I want it to work with the SDA when Im walking

In a similar vein I'm looking for some mapping software to use while mountainbiking. Not so fussed about GPS as I can read a map fairly well....

Are all these suggestions predominantly for use with GPS?

Yes they are - map wise the only decent free map software I've seen is Maps24 but it doesn't show bridleways. Memorymap is supposedly one of the best digital maps, but it's pricey.

While I only used the Walking Mode briefly on Tomtom 6.1 this past weekend, it did seem to do the trick quite nicely. Tomtom also has a Bike option and a limited speed option for scooters or perhaps Segways...

I'm using Tomtom on a TORQ N100 (aka ETEN G500) with on board sirfstarIII GPS chip. It locked quickly and there's also an option in 2D mode to lock the map orientation, so that turning a corner, turns you on the map instead of the map itself, which certainly aided in mental orientation.

Odyssey Mobile Navigation looks to be a cheaper buy. But, I think it is a time sensitive software (meaning it is only good for up to a year). Here's screenshot in landscape:

It's an entry level GPS software, so if your wanting to get into GPS and dont want to dish out the dollars, this looks promising. There is a free trial for a few days to test it.

I would imagine it supports the latest PPC phones since it can display in landscape mode (320x240), but I emailed them about support anyway.
